The free synths from u-he
Greetings,
As danboid has pointed out, u-he makes a very fine synthesizer called Podolski that the company gives away for free. Nicely, a native Linux version is available. The Zebralette synth is also a freebie, but you'll have to install the Zebra package to get it.
U-he also gives away the occasional magware plugin, e.g. the Beatzille VST available from the Beat.de magazine. I purchased the downloadable PDF of volume #119 (IIRC) and was directed to a registration form for getting the hard-copy DVD contents, and within a few minutes I was running Beatzille - it's a scaled-down version of the Bazille FM synth - in Bitwig 1.3.4. I think u-he has created a few other magware synths, but at this time I'm uncertain about the availability of Linux versions. Abique (Alex Bique) is overseeing the operation, and I believe that he intends that everything from u-he - freeware, magware, and the rest - will be available in native Linux versions.
Meanwhile, if you write a friendly request to support at u-he they'll kindly give you a copy of their Tyrell N6 for Linux. This is another freebie, available from Amazona.de, an on-line magazine. However, no purchase is necessary.
I've inquired about Linux versions of the TripleCheese, Zebra|CM, Zoyd, and ItmLabs u-he plugins as well. And if you can't wait for Linux versions of the u-he freebies, the Windows versions have all worked pretty well for me as Airwave'd VSTs.
EDIT: TripleCheese is available on request (seems to be working well in BW 1.3.4), Zebra|CM's status is undetermined at this time, and the Zoyd and ItmLabs plugins are discontinued/unsupported and will not be available for Linux. I assume that Beatzille, TripleCheese, and TyrellN6 will run all right in Ardour4, they're not shell plugins. I'll verify that later today.
Best,
dp

Re: The free synths from u-he
Hi Dave,
What did you do to receive the beatzille?
I just bought the magazine for beatzille but now i should contact the u-he support.
Is a copy of paypal transaction good enough to prove you bought the magazine?

U-he does not provide the synth, you'll need to get it from Beat. IIRC you should register at http://www.serialcenter.de and go from there. Let me know if you have further problems.tripomatic wrote:Hi Dave,

Re: The free synths from u-he
I didn't know about triple cheese having a Linux version! Sounds like an interesting synth so I'm writng to them now! Thanks for pointing this out Dave!
I thought Ardour supported shell plugins? I'm sure I've run Zebra under A4 before.

Re: The free synths from u-he
The latest Linux beta versions are always available in the KVR forum for u-he. Here's the thread you need to visit :rwman wrote:Where i can download Podolski? There is no download link on the official site https://www.u-he.com/cms/podolski

User/developer abique is the contact man for questions and comments on these versions, be sure to let him know how they work out for you.

Re: The free synths from u-he
Greetings,
Abique has added TripleCheese and the new Protoverb to the list of Linux installers. See the previously referenced KVR thread for more information about downloading.
Protoverb is a new freebie from u-he. It's a rather simple reverb with an interesting design and excellent sound quality.

Re: The free synths from u-he
Did you retrieve the file from the u-he site or from the KVR thread ?briandc wrote:I noticed that the TripleCheese zip does use a .so file but an .exe file...
Again, here's the URL for the Linux betas :

@stanlea : There's apparently a problem with these plugins and Carla, hopefully falkTX can pinpoint the cause. They cause no such problems in Bitwig, haven't tested these in Ardour yet.

Re: The free synths from u-he
I saw today on u-he site that there is a new experimental reverb plugin.
Protoverb.
And yes, it's available for linux in vst format.
http://www.u-he.com/cms/179-protoverb
Haven't tried it yes, not enough time.
