New GxRectifier.lv2

Post by tramp »

This tube amp emulation is inspired by the Orange AD200, but didn't intend to simulate this one.
However, the simulation use 2 x ECC83, 1 x ECC81 and 4 x 6550 tube emulations, were the Orange usually use 1 x ECC83. This simulation use one more ECC83 to avoid phase inversion.
Cabinet simulate a 4 x 10 and in front of all sitting a rectifier.
In opposite to the original AD200, which use a 3 band tonestack, this one use again a 2 band baxandall tone control.
Again, I'm interested if this suite the need of the Bass players here.
get it here :

In the layman term, the opposite of distortion.

Hi tramp!

Great job on these specific LV2's, they are quick and easy to get a good sound!

I'll give this latest one a try as soon as I can

I'm wondering if for bass players it would be useful to create an LV2 using the specific tube/rectifier layout of a classic bass amp like the Ampeg SVT?
http://www.ampeg.com/products/classic/svtvr/

Just wondering... I'm sure it's not that simple... :)

Im not much of a fan of the svt classic series, most of the time ive had bands come in with them they hvae just been loud and muddy.

Much prefer the pro series Like this one

Don't get me wrong, this is not about to simulate a special amp model.
Just, some people complain about the leak of bass amp emulation in Linux, and in guitarix in special.
As I'm not a bass player, (non of the guitarix dev's is) I started this to find out, if we could come a bit closer to fill this leak.
I'm guided myself along the Orange AD200 Bass schematic, but loosely only. This one isn't developed with our Ampsim toolkit, which need a wide more afford to get going. Later on, we could, maybe go to simulate Models like the Ampeg SVT (3pro) and others, but for now, this is just the basic.

I'm a bass player and I'd love to have an ampeg SVT CL simulation...or at least something more bass-oriented.

Maybe there is. . . . and
it is really easy to check out for yourself. No big dependency deal at all. Only gcc and friends and of-course LV2 headers are needed. Type make install and be done. You could do that as simple user, no root access is needed.
Check out with your preferred LV2 host.
If you didn't like it, just do make uninstall and delete the download.
If you like it, you could build a debian package by : make deb
and fit the needs of your package management system to install it permanent.
(Given you run debian based system)
If you a AVLinux user, you find a ready to go package in Glen's repository.

Please, let me know your results. Even, if it is ugly/ unusable, I need to know it, otherwise, I can't improve it.

@tramp: Curious if you have opportunity to test Avid's 11 Rack?
Or Pod HD 300/500, and similar quality hardware, and
software solutions like S-Gear, Amplitube, Guitar Rig etc
And how you rate their various sounds, compared to
your own creations?

The guitarix interface is very nice, and although I'm not one able
to identify what some would call 'classic tones', I never find myself
shutting down guitarix, for lack of creating enjoyable/useful sounds.
Cheers

I'm glad you like the interface, and enjoy the sound, but at least I start this special topic,
to get some feedback from Bass Players, to add a bass amp to guitarix.
I realize now, that this attend fail du to the leak of interest.
So be it.

Regarding classic sounds, how about this:

even if this is more my liking

This plugin eats up all the low end, boosts hi-mid and (some) high freqiencies and cuts almost anything near 1 kHz. That sounds harsh and low-fi. The cab model should be changed as soon as it's possible, at least to 4x12 which reproduces lows and highs a lot better than 4x10. An even better decision is to throw the cab emulation away since Guitarix has no any decent cab model for bass. When trying plugin with 0% cab dry/wet, the result was almost the same, but slightly less harsh. Also, a decent tonestack is needed. My experience shows that Bassman model is the best of what we have in Guitarix.

Just tried Gxrectifier as a preamp stage on guitar. That's what it's suitable best for. A very nice replacement for any Tube Screamer emulation.

I was thinking this GxRectifier would be great used with Calf Monosynth,
and a good EQ. I know little about bass, but did some reading, and a lot
of the unbiased bass ampsim posts indicate that using high quality IR's
is a huge factor in getting accurate results. Free bass-amp/cab-sims don't seem
real popular, except for the free TSE bod, and the one in the free
Amplitube Custom Shop, which has a 1x15 cab. I get the impression
they are a difficult plugin to program. The bass player I know
said she'll taze me if I mention a sim in her presence again.
Cheers
