Just discovered these one-synth-challenge songs on KVR. i.e. https://sites.google.com/site/kvrosc/osc-26-zynaddsubfx There is one for Noizemaker, zynaddsubfx, and tunefish. I think the rest of the synths aren't FLOSS (though it would be nice to find out some are!). I don't know if any of the songs are made on linux, but they could be. Nice anyway just to hear some FLOSS tools used very well.
*edit, just looked at TAL. Is it actually FLOSS, or just free? Didn't find any licensing, but its definitely available for us linux users at least.

Thats a shame. Thanks. Excellent idea for a tunestorm. Would you prefer to limit it to a particular synth or open it up for any one FLOSS synth?

Is the source going to stay in the distrho repo or will you remove it? I'm not quite sure how these things work.falkTX wrote:Cool.
Can we make this a new theme for a tunestorm? please?
TAL is no longer opensource.ssj71 wrote:*edit, just looked at TAL. Is it actually FLOSS, or just free? Didn't find any licensing, but its definitely available for us linux users at least.
I still have the source in the distrho repo from when the plugins were GPLv2. There will be no more opensource plugins from TAL.

Might have to download the source just in case then, would hate to lose that one.falkTX wrote:tatch wrote: But if the author asks nicely, I'll most likely do it.

Is tunefish free software?
Anyway this sounds like a great idea, it wuold be even more awesome if the “source” files of the entries would be provided aswell so that other people can learn how to create a particular sound with a synth.

Tunefish!
I'd not heard of this synth until I read this thread. I'm listening to the KVR OSC for it now and it sounds impressive! I don't see any links to its source though, just binary tarballs.
Thats sad news about TAL no longer being open - where did you hear this F?

Sounds like he didn't have a clue what GPL is all about when he released it. Too bad.falkTX wrote:He said he believe his previous code was stolen/copied to other products. And also old code is not very good for a man's reputation.
Old code? Perhaps if it were poor code, but all the more reason to keep it GPL, maintain it and accept patches. But to each their own. Its nice that he is at least not complaining about us using it.
Hrmm. Perhaps tunefish isn't opensource after all either... I have mixed emotions about non-open things for linux. Its great that they are thinking about us and realize we are a potential part of their market, but I love openness too. I recognize the challenges though for someone trying to make a little money from their work. Harry's done it best I think. I'd be curious to see the earning statistics of closed source plugins. I can imagine its not as lucrative as people usually hope.
