Synthv1 and Drumkv1 crash Qtractor/Ardour

Post by sysrqer »

I have strange problem with these two plugins. If I try to load them in to Qtractor the whole daw crashes and disappears. In Ardour I can load them on to a midi track but they crash the whole daw when trying to bring up the GUI. This also happens with Carla too.

I can load both standalone but it seems I can't load either of them in a host.

I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this, does anyone have any idea what might be going on here?

I found something mentioned here about not building the plugins against qt5 and that if you do it causes the host to crash every time the gui is called to display. I looked in my system and I do see qt5 installed and it says that it is required by drumkv1, samplv1 & synthv1.

So if I download the source myself and make & install would this solve the problem? I'm not really sure where qt* comes in to it.

Edit: just tried making it myself and I can load it in Qtractor but I can't get any gui now.

what distro do you use?

I had similar problem in the past i think with ardour when opening plugin and it was caused by missing library files.
Libsuil was not compiled against qt & gtk back then in debian.

if i print the list of libsuil-0-0 i get:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsuil-0.so.0.6.16
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/suil-0
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/suil-0/libsuil_x11_in_gtk2.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/suil-0/libsuil_x11_in_qt4.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/suil-0/libsuil_gtk2_in_qt4.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/suil-0/libsuil_qt4_in_gtk2.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsuil-0.so.0

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/suil-0/libsuil_qt4_in_gtk2.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsuil-0.so.0
I use Manjaro so I originally installed it from AUR.
I can't find any files with libsuil, the only thing I can see is a folder called 'suil' in /usr/include/suil-0 which contains suil.h and a folder also called 'suil' in /usr/share/licenses/ which contains a file called 'LICENSE'.

I uninstalled Drumkv1 and qt5, then downloaded the source and made/installed and copied the folder to ~/.lv2 and it doesn't crash any more but it won't give me the gui when I double click on it when loaded in to a track in Qtractor. I didn't see any errors in the make and install but something can't be right still.

Just rebuilt Drumkv1 and it's working fine now, not sure why the last build didn't work but everything seems to be fine now.
