(solved) lmms stalls all the time. Do not come into my project
I wanted to clone a line in my project. But that went wrong. My LMMS crashed and if I want to get back into the project it crashes again (The cloned line was a VST). I don't want to do everything from the beginning. Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Kinda guessing here but I think the projects file are zipped text files.
Maybe unzip the file, find the offending plugin line. Zip up and try agian.
please please please, make a back up first!
You can get really good help in the lmms discord channel btw.

[Tangential to Original Topic:] I've heard it said that there are two kinds of users: those that back up their data, and those that will back up their data. Having a good backup saved my bacon a few months ago when one of my Ardour projects got corrupted, but in the past I have lost gigabytes of priceless data, including videos of my kids and months worth of work on recording projects, because of a poor backup system. It's a good time to review your backup system and make sure it is working for you. I can think of ways that I need to improve my own backup routine on my recording studio machine, and I'll do that when I get home today.

Umm what happened to this thread!?
That is good advice. I have a somewhat loose system of manually rsyncing to an external drive but I don't do it nearly often enough. I would like to have it happen automatically but I find this a bit discomforting, if I don't find that something is missing or doesn't work pretty quickly then the backup could have already been performed and the backed up files deleted. Maybe I need to look into snapshots or something.

If you have the storage space to spare, this might help: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Rs ... hot_backup.sysrqer wrote:Maybe I need to look into snapshots or something.

Re: (solved) lmms stalls all the time. Do not come into my project
rsnapshot is my favorite tool. Doesn't take a lot of disk space because it uses a lot of hard links instead of copying files from snapshot to snapshot.
My only concern with automating backups on my studio machine is that I don't want them running in the background while I'm recording or otherwise using a lot of DSP resources. I'm pretty good about rsyncing to an external HD, but I'm not perfect at it and I know that it will come back to bite me some day if I don't automate it.
I tend to turn the machine off while I'm not using it, because I only work in the studio a couple times a week. But maybe I should let it run 24/7 so that I can automate backups at 2:00 am? Or maybe use anacron to do the backup in the first 10 min after booting, and just plan to wait that long before doing any recording? But I really want the backup to run after a recording session, not just before it.
Hmmmm ... Tradeoffs.

The extra disk space for snapshots is what has always put me off but I do have some to spare at the moment so I might well look in to this in more detail.
I think you can set things to happen after idle time? Maybe you could set up a combination of a long idle time but only during certain hours that you're unlikely to be using it?
