2 different systems that have 2 different problems lmms zyn

Hello all,

I need some help.

I have two different systems
that have two different problems
concerning lmms & zynaddsubfx.

First is my custom built desktop:
ubuntustudio 16.04 LTS
AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 6128 × 16
24GB of ram.
KxStudio repo’s installed.
LMMS 1.1.3

When I open zynaddsubfx as a plugin,
it works but the instrument bank list is empty.

I can choose different patches if I click in the
bank where my choices should be but there is
no lettering there.

This doesn't happen if I open zyn on its own
outside of lmms.


Second machine is a :
Toshiba satellite p845-s4200
ubuntustudio 16.04 LTS
Intel Core i5-3317U processor
16GB of RAM
KxStudio repo’s installed.
LMMS 1.1.3

When I open zynaddsubfx as a plugin
it will open but pushing the “show gui”
button will cause LMMS to freeze like
it’s about to crash, it recovers but the
gui never gets displayed.

i would appreciate any help i could get.

I have had these kinds of flaky issues too. I've had much better luck using ZASF via Carla Rack instead of the direct LMMS plugin. And this way you can use the new Zyn-Fusion gui!

The main downside is apparently you can't automate Carla in LMMS.

good deal, i ask the lmms community the same thing (they said it was a known issue ) and what i was told was to use the ZASF windows vst dll in vestige to get zyn working.

i'd much rather use the carla rack.

whats the difference between patchbay and rack?

speaking of the zyn fusion gui? how do i start using that?

between the hydrogen drum machine, the shuriken beat slicer, LMMS, zynaddsubfx, Fabla2(whenever that drops),the vMPC2000XL (https://www.izmar.nl/) and Ardour... I think i can finally let go of my flstudio wine folder.

the goal was always to get to all open source tools for my project (a hip-hop mixtape with accompanying self-produced motion comics as videos )

I've had to teach myself digital drawing, animation and video editing with synfig, blender, gimp, mypaint and krita.
i came to gnu/linux with skills in audio production using flstudio and adobe audition and i didn't want to let flstudio go until i could feel just as productive using the open source tools.

after your suggestion to use carla rack i made a whole track without feeling the need to open flstudio!

it felt great but also kinda sad.

like breaking up with someone you love who you know is bad for you.

without kxstudio i don't think this would have happened

can't think about that now...i gotta lotta work to do!

Iirc Carla patchbay let's you connect the plugins in any order you like, via the canvas tab.
Carla rack has a fixed signal flow. Top down.

Zyn-Fusion is in the zynaddsubfx-git package. The new interface is yet another new complicated thing to learn but it's generally a massive improvement over the messy UI in the legacy version. fyi I switched over while I had several projects in progress, and the UI change did not break anything for me!
