1540 upgraded, 136 newly installed, 15 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0 B/3,879 MB of archives.
After this operation, 1,106 MB of additional disk space will be used.
(It's been a while since I did a dist-upgrade, since I am working at a project and didn't want any problems. So, new Qt and KF are also to be installed, FWIW.)

I am not sure if this is one of those situations (common to Sid) where we just have to wait for the transition (to newer packages) to end or if something needs to be addressed by KXStudio's team.

By the way, since I am not sure if it is an issue with KXStudio or with Debian's transitions, I did not post this on the issue tracker at Github, but I would be glad to do so if that is the best way. (And, for future reference, is Github preferred in these situations where it is not clear?)

Something I discovered the hard way with debian, is that if there is a contention between two libraries that you use that causes your program to fail there is a good chance that it's your program that gets removed, and even if you find a work-round it can be an uphill battle to get it reinstated

I assume Carla depends on something very old. I use testing and not yet hit this.
