terminal problems installing stuff dpkg interrupted/ installing wine rt

Every time I go to install something I get E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

Am I just typing in the command line wrong? I am trying to install wine rt right now I would like to try reaper so any install advice would help.

This is a new install of 14.04 with the kxstudio repos installed I may have done something wrong installing them. I don't know everything is kind of scattered around installing it.
