The 14.04 i386 .iso image has (or had) an erroneous file (something like remove-pkg.list) with practcally all packages listed, so the ubiquity installer will, after a long wait, finally uninstall everything again.
Workaround is to clone a live session to partition, extracting the squashfs might also work, but this should be fixed on the server.

Nice to know. Still a quck fix might help for the time being, new images will probably introduce far more changes.
