we should get over the unrational fear of pulseaudio, it's good software and it's here to stay.

the pulseaudio "haters" are a vocal minority. most people just want working audio out of the box, and that's what pulseaudio does - most of time.
jack and pulseaudio can live happily together, much more than jack and raw alsa apps.
Great, thank you for your reply! Coming from you, I am happy with that statement. I was coming from hearing all the pulseaudio complaints, and you providing an ISO for a base system working without pulseaudio at all. I assumed there was a good reason to leave pulseaudio out of a vanilla KXStudio install.

By the way, I am still unable to install pulseaudio and other related packages. Does anyone have a hint? See below:

...and the latest Firefox update (Version 52.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.14.04.1):
* Fix LP: #1671273 - Build with --enable-alsa for now to re-enable the
unmaintained ALSA backend. Note that problems with the ALSA backend will
not block future updates and Ubuntu flavors that ship without Pulseaudio
need to participate in maintaining this code

Hey Lilith

I seem to have found the solution, as I had to look into it again to install something different (Wine). Looking into the unresolved dependencies and following the thread to the bottom, I found that libpulse0 was again the culprit. The version was recent enough, and the package was already installed, but it was still being a pain, probably because of the kxstudio extension to the version number.

Here is what I had to do:

Find what versions of libpulse0 are available / installed:

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy libpulse0
Replace the current version with the one from the Ubuntu repos (in my case, 1:4.0-0ubuntu11.1):

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libpulse0=1:4.0-0ubuntu11.1
And try to install pulseaudio-module-jack again.

I'm curious to see if that solves it for you!

No way to listen to HTML5 sound without PA?
I have a "regular" system with PA (with which I never get my RME Multiface to work), and a "sound system" with Jack (KX from ISO).
Sometimes I had sound in Firefox, sometimes not. Now it's silent...

Hey there, having the same problem over here. Kxstudio 14.04.

First of all: my Audiointerface and Firefox worked before the Firefox update.
Then: no sound in Firefox.

So I installed Pulseaudio.
Now Cadence won't start with my USB Audiointerface.
The internal soundcard (hw:PCH,0 [ALC892 Analog]) still works.

The log says something with Alsas Playback is wrong, but i can't figure out how to solve this:

Code: Select all
