Is the firewire device recognized by the system? I'm no expert but it looks like it can't find the device you have chosen to use.

I would try making sure the system is booted with the device attached as I know some people have to do that. I would also try starting jack from the command line or with qjackctl so you can see whether it is a cadence specific problem or a problem with Jack itself. If you have another machine try your interface on that, this will show if it is an interface issue or your setup (any Pc that can take a live distro will do.this).

...so, yes my Echo AF12 is switched on and the device has been working fine before. I did however notice some hickups when starting up lately...
Here you find the commands i found in the other topics and their outputs. Thanks for the help!

Re: Cadence cannot start Jack anymore...

Post by oNNogitaar »

I had my AudioFire12 send in for repairs but they did not find anything wrong with it but replaced the part that is known to cause the problem i described.
Anyway, i have it back now and still jack fails to start...
Ffado-mixer tells me there would be something wrong with Dbus but my AF12 is "connected" so i guess there is nothing wrong with the cable??

Any ideas please? Thank you!

it works on MS Windows

We tested yesterday with windows on my computer, my AF12 does not work with a fresh install of AVLinux and neither KX studio...

Hi ONNogitaar

In recent linux kernel versions (some) firewire interfaces are supported directly, without the need of the (not included in the kernel) ffado drivers. The drivers of the audio interfaces in the linux kernel are also called "alsa drivers" (alsa: advanced linux sound architecture).

I might be wrong on this, as I don't own a firewire device and it is rather confusing but, as far as I know, in jack configuration, by choosing the "firewire" driver you are telling jack to use the ffado driver. So, in theory you just need to change the driver from "firewire" to "alsa".

If that doesn't work, you need to blacklist the kernel module that is supposed to support your firewire interface, so that the ffado driver takes the control again. You can identify that module by means of:

lsmod | grep snd

and looking at

https://www.alsa-project.org/main/index ... wire_stack

Then put it in the "black list" so it doesn't load anymore.

thank you very much for this! I will do some research on that.
I was just about writng that it was the firmware. I had a friend helping me rolling back the firmware to an older version (4.8 i think) and now the device is working again.

I have Cadence to choose the "firewire" driver, if i change to "alsa" the onboard soundcard is used. I do not know if i can pick the AF12 instead.
With "firewire" selected and with the old firmware installed on the interface, it works again. With the new 5.8 firmware Jack could not start...
