"A new version of Kubuntu is available"

Hi there

I am using KXStudio 14.04 (ISO downloaded from the website a while ago) and Muon updater just started telling me that "A new version of Kubuntu is available" a few day ago.

Is this to update the system to 16.04? Is it something I should do? Or is it likely to create problems / break things, as the recommended Ubuntu version for KXStudio repos is still 14.04 at the moment?

Cheers!

I updated my system and now it s all buggy. Actually it doesnt boot up normally.. I have to manually startx :| idk if that helps lol

I hope there was something I could do to sorta undo the update or fix the new version to work.

OK, thanks for the feedback, guys!

For people who want to hide that pesky notification:
Software Updates > More... > Advanced... > Configure Software Sources > Updates > Release Upgrade > "Never"

I got that message as well so I backed up my installed programs list, made sure I had a copy of kxstudio to reinstall if I needed to and went for it. Unfortunately I didn't have enough space in the / partition for the upgrade
I downloaded the new version of kubuntu and installed that with the kxstudio repos and it's been ok for me so far. It's certainly not as rock solid as 14.04 was but I really like the new KDE version. I suppose I need to use it more to get a good idea of how it truly is though.

I upgraded too...

Try install SDDM display manager, it worked for me (no more "startx" :P ).

If you have a AMD video card (maybe) you will need a newer kernel (4.6.5):

Change the default KXstudio splash screen to Kubuntu plymouth theme (I've got some .../plymouth errors on boot).

Thanks, luciorgomes - that really rescued my doing the same thing!

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install sddm
That does it all! Also I had to re-do the repos and stuff, but it is working ok now.
