hi falktx and big thanks for the 14.04 kxstudio. so far it rocks even better (at least for me) than the 12.04.
just one question though: what about wine and festige? i wanted to install it but synaptic wants to delete jack1 and other things with it. sorry if it has already been dealth with, but what is the best way to have wine/wineasio/festige back?
i prefer to wait to see what you'll suggest before doing anything.

ok, sorry for that, i just read this post http://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic ... hilit=wine and it seems to answer the question...
Re: Anyone interested on a 14.04-based ISO?
ah, so we CAN install wine and use window's vst with the kx 14.04?... sorry, i'm confused...
Re: Anyone interested on a 14.04-based ISO?
when i use a program through wine (installed as you suggested), the default driver is now wasapi, and wineasio isn't even listed as an alternative (although installed). result: i get an enormous latency of 30ms...
maybe i'm missing something or didn't install something else... or simply don't get the whole jack-wine-wineasio thing.

does this support uefi? I'm trying to make a liveusb of this to see if it will fix my issues with 1818vsl but I can't get the iso to load, tried both usb and cd.

Re: Anyone interested on a 14.04-based ISO?
Hi!
First of all, thanks for the new ISO release.
By now, it works well at 99% but... audio using Firefox! It seems does not work...
I'm using a desktop quad-core with EWS88MT PCI (onboard audio card blacklisted), and alsa-bridge activated (alsa>loop>Jack).
Someone has the same issue?
Thanks in advance!
Ciao,
Touch.

BTW, for those concerned about the KDE bloat, AFAIK, KXS uses a KDE base with pulseaudio and many other stuff kept away, which makes it much lighter and less resources hungry than typical KDE installs.
Aside of that, for those that never got used to LXDE and never were caught by Xfce (like me), you can always replace Kwin for the much lighter and fast openbox (Works just fine here). Or going further and replace kdm for something lighter like SLiM and just run openbox instead of KDE. It worked fine for me in former installs. Needs some tweaks and setup, but makes KXS fly and using minimum resources. Or even Kwin standalone with some dock and/or panel and menu of your choice. (Haven't tried it yet, but my next install (Downloading now) will be tweaked that way).

Re: Anyone interested on a 14.04-based ISO?
if you really cant get used to LXDE (i dont understant why as its pretty similer to kde or xfce just without all the fancy cpu hogging fancy features which you really dont need its just effects) you can always apply the mac osx theme to lxde. This transforms it from the basica almost windows 95ish look to a shiny mac os theme.
however this does comsume a little more resources but no where near as much as kde.
I like LXDE, it uses around 100mb of ram on login freeing up ram and resources for more important tasks.
right now im only using 680mb of ram with firefox open

Re: Anyone interested on a 14.04-based ISO?
Am I the only one experiencing problems with the repositories in 14.04?
Everything else works very well for now!Conflicting distribution: http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net trusty Release (expected trusty but got stable)
Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/kxstudio-debia ... 4/Packages 404 Not Found
Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/kxstudio-debia ... 6/Packages 404 Not Found
Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Keep on rocking in the free world!
Re: Anyone interested on a 14.04-based ISO?
Im downloading this now to test on a laptop i just picked up for cheap.
its an HP compaq 6190p which has intel express graphics. Im hoping kde works ok though i do not plan to use KDE (i will install lxde like i do on my desktop computer)
I tried the lubuntu 14.04 live CD and that seems to work fine so hoping kx studio does too as i plan to use it live with reverbs and delays.

Re: Anyone interested on a 14.04-based ISO?
It's a matter of taste (and a worthless endeless discussion). I've tried so many times Xfce and LXDE. I know there's a lot of love for Xfce, but rendering is quite poor to me. For me there are just two options. For DE I only consider KDE. Don't care about the rest. For WM, after trying so many I always go back to Openbox. I love Compiz standalone, which is not specially more heavy than OB, quite buggy, but my favorite rendering so far.bazsound wrote:if you really cant get used to LXDE (i dont understant why as its pretty similer to kde or xfce just without all the fancy cpu hogging fancy features which you really dont need its just effects) you can always apply the mac osx theme to lxde. Kwin standalone is something that I still haven't managed to work right, but keep on trying. Regarding effects I don't use too many. Most are disabled. just five to improve my workflow. Nothing about eyecandy, just windows and desktop switching and windows management set to instant. But enabling them or disabling them all makes about no difference in Ram or CPU load besides the popular belief. There are other things in KDE which actually make the load. Not a few desktop effects. That's why I'd like to run Kwin alone instead. It's not bigger than the lighter DEs and doesn't have more impact in RAM or CPU.
BTW, my attempts with Razor-qt were quite disappointing. It still needs a long go. Just purged it.

The issue with USB sticks is still persistent. Both gnome-disks and dd failed to produce a bootable system.
