I may or may not end up using Mint 14 in a month or so when released. At the very least, I will want to install on one of my testing partitions, and see if it is worth updating. But at the moment, I'm with you. I am very happy with Mint 13 and kxstudio. For that matter, I haven't done any updates in my setup since the new cadence was released(still running old cadence and loving it). I'm waiting for all the bigs to be worked out, and functionality added. My system is awesomely stable right now, andim in the middle of mixing for 3 musicians right now, and can't afford serious breakages. But, I do maintain testing partitions to see what I'm missing. To make a long story short, I will help test 12.10 just to further my cause of wanting Mint 14.

12.04 will last longer than previous versions, it's the opportunity to develop a very stable platform. In my view, you should still focus on it. An wait future major changes.

Using the precise repos on quantal is only a hack, and probably cause for trouble in the long term...
It is probable, although I do not see significant changes in the audio too

What will surely be most problems are those DE

So, I'm hoping to learn more about how to backport kernel and stuff into 12.04. I like the idea of LTS, but I want some of the updates. I can't hibernate my 12.04 system. There's an update to gtk-oxygen that fixes a problem with Inkscape and others for saving but it's listed in Launchpad as only packaged for 12.10. Stuff like that. I want to know the smoothest way to get these sorts of updates. I would consider updating to 12.10, but I don't know if there's any benefit as long as I can get these other updates in 12.04 without too much hassle.

Sorry the official title is "oxygen-gtk", and that is the only really important fix. Otherwise, I don't have any hibernate function and I heard that the new kernels bring that back, because maybe there was some bug that was why it was removed… not sure about that. I heard the latest kernels offer a dual sleep/hibernate so if power is lost it is hibernated but it is otherwise just standby. That sounds nice. I don't otherwise know of anything I care about right now.
Thanks again! :D

I missed what you are wrong about, but I suggest using the wonderful interrobang in the future: ‽
Simple and obvious: compose-key,?,!

I ♥ the Compose key (yes, I'm actually typing this on a keyboard with a physical Compose key) ;)

As I test any packages before I upload them this is going to cost me twice as much time. I'm not sure if I got that time :( But I'll see what I can do, I'm not uploading s***loads of packages like you do ;)

I just wanted to send a backtrack, why "carla" not start at quantal =)

The rest works surprisingly better than 12.04, Jack does not crash as it did precise

When i have a little time I will follow your advice

Now I expect a series of concerts this weekend = D

Edit: Sorry my bad english

My two cents on quantal test :

'just installed ubuntu studio, then

Code: Select all

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kxstudio-team/kxstudio
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install kxstudio-repos
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
$ sudo apt-get install kxstudio-desktop-xfce
Now, every "# sudo apt-get update" give me :

Code: Select all

...
Err http://ppa.launchpad.net quantal/main Sources
  404  Not Found
Err http://ppa.launchpad.net quantal/main amd64 Packages
  404  Not Found
Err http://ppa.launchpad.net quantal/main i386 Packages
  404  Not Found
...
W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/kxstudio-team/music/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/kxstudio-team/music/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/kxstudio-team/music/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I guess they are some issues with kxstudio quantal ppas, no ?

From now, i still can't install such packages as ardour :

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt-get install ardour3
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package ardour3 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'ardour3' has no installation candidate

Wow, impressive :)
Yes, no more issues with sources, thanks for all, dude !

I will quietly wait for ardour. Or maybe you want me to try something ?
