@ Brummer, why do you restrict yourself to heavy rock/metal sounds?

EDIT: do you have Debian packages for guitarix? Would be nice :)

sorry, I dont understand this question, what for a restriction 8) ? It's a goal

The source is ready for run

Code: Select all

dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b
on it to build a debian package. I run debian/sid, so I only can build packages for sid.

hey funkmuscle, maybe this is what you waiting for:
Orlarey Yann wrote:BTW my colleague Christophe Daudin and myself are working on a kind of
Faust IDE (based on QT4) that tries also to speedup the development
cycle for Faust. It is not ready to be released yet, but at least I can
describe the concept :

You have 3 windows : a graphic scene, a Faust code editor and a C++ code
visualizer. The graphic scene contains several Faust programs
represented by their SVG block-diagrams :
- You can drag an existing Faust file from your file system and drop it
to the graphic scene
- The binary code of the dropped file is automatically compiled and the
corresponding SVG block-diagram is displayed on the graphic scene
- You can double click on the block-diagram to launch the binary, or you
can drop it to your file system.
Moreover :
- When you select a block-diagram on the graphic scene, its Faust code
is placed in the editor and the C++ code in the C++ code visualizer.
- When you edit the Faust code in the Faust editor, the block diagram
and the C++ code are automatically updated in background (when the
program is syntactically correct)
- When you save the Faust code you have edited the binary is
automatically recompiled
- You can combine block-diagrams on the graphic scene by drag and drop.
When you drag a block-diagram on another one, a pop up palette appears
where you choose one of the 5 combinations of the block-diagram algebra
(: , ~ <: :>).

We hope to release a first version for LAC...

Cheers

hey brummer, that sound cool. keep us informed when it's ready.

I think studio32 means that you only play heavy metal or I think you mentioned that in this thread or somewhere else...maybe on Sidux's site as you have lots of screenshots there.
Or you said that guitarix was made for heavymetal..

yea, it's a joke, I understand what studio32 meen, I wont to make clear that for me, it is'nt a restriction, for me it's a goal. guitarix is Designed to get nice trash/metall/rock/blues/guitar sounds.
Not only for play a guitar. I am myself play a selfmade Coculele, witch I build from a Coconut. It have 2 1/2 oktave and is tuned like a bass. I play it with a Electret Condenser Microphon (imp High) (Sony ECM-144). I hold it in my right hand when I play, it's smaller as a cigaret filter, so I pos it between my fingers.
And I play heavy metall, rock, blues&soul music with it. To get the best posible reverbation I have add the support for jconv to guitarix, to be able to record my session any time, I have add the suport for jack_capture and write the Gui for jack_capture as a result from the coresponding with Kjetil S. Matheussen.
Now I have dessigned the new midi out in guitarix. The 3 midi channels give me a perfect Band. I know that it would'nt work so well with a E-Guitar input, but therefor I have work out the beatdetector settings widget witch give the possibiliy to set it up to work with E-Guitar input.

So guitarix hav'nt the Goal to be "THE AMP". It's a tool for rolling rockers.

I was just playing with it and got some sick metal tones, loved it, and some warm blues tones...
dude, it's almost there as I only run the jconv output, not the guitarix, so guitar>>guitarix>>jconv>>output in qjackctl....
I also compared it to my real guitar preamp>>jconv>>output and the tone of the guitarix is almost there.

hi khz

It seems you start guitarix without install it ?
If so, please start guitarix with the set_env_guitarix.sh script witch is include in the source tree,
to set the propper environment.

Re: guitar amp/cab sims with impulse response loading

Post by jochen »

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to get a nice guitar sound with guitarix. I'd like to have it sound like the JCM900-VST.

So I downloaded some JCM900 impulse responses from http://grgr.de/IR/ and loaded one of them in the jconv section of guitarix. But I'm not satisfied with the sound I'm getting.

I hope someone can provide me with tips on how to get a better sound -- better settings / another IR-file or tell me what I'm doing wrong ;-)

Thanks and regards,
Jochen

Hi jochen

welcome by LinuxMusicians :D

I like the JMP marshall files from your url http://grgr.de/IR/
But also the JCM900 files dont sound as bad.
Anyway, do you set the wet/dry slider in the jconv controller to the right site to run it wet ?
Do you play with the gain settings and the max mem size ? maybe set them higher.
Use the /impulse/copy mode for 1 channel files and the /impulse/read mode for 2 channel files.
Maybe the JCM900 files are files for stereo use (load 2 impulsefiles), that isn't suportet by guitarix
by now, you must use jconv direct (from comandline) if you need stereo effect's.
Also, maybe you need to tweak the settings for distortion to your need (extra settigs widget).

I this tread you find a lot links to more free IR files.

hi brummer,

thanks for the welcome and for guitarix, of course!

Do you have any example configurations for guitarix? I still don't succeed in getting a nice sound...

Another question: what's the state of the LADSPA plugin? Is it as complete as the standalone-app?

I want to use it in qtractor as a plugin. For the convolution part I found dssi_convolve http://tapas.affenbande.org/wordpress/?page_id=36, but it seems to add additional latency. Do you know of another plugin?

Thanks for your help,
jochen

hi

yeah, I need to add some documentation to guitarix,. . .

So, let's start by the gain settings, ingain -> set the influence level for all buildin effects
the outgain -> it's selfexplained.
So you can setup the gain and effectinfluece with this to sliders (knobs now)
The tone settings are like ever.
compressor, a example from what I use is knee -> 1,5 , ratio-> 1,2 (or higher),tthreshold-> -30 to -50 ( depent on the style, attack-> 0,333, release-> 8,88.
Know you can simple set the compression ratio in the mainwindow to your need's.
distortion, drive-> 0,20 to 1,00 ( depent on style), level->0,00 , gain->2,0 (it's just a makeup gain for drive), low/highpass high-freq->130 (-3db reduced the gain from deper freqs as the value )
low-freq-> 5000 to 8000 (-3db reduced the gain from higher freqs as the value)
low/highcutoff high-freq->5000 to 7000 ( cut higher freqs then the valus)
low-freq->70 to 170 (cut deper freqs then the value)
resonanz trigger-> 0.12 to 0.24 (or higher)
vibrato-> 1.00
freeverb Roomsize-> select what you like damp-> 0,30 ( Roomechos) wet/dry-> I allways run it at 0,0 to mix the sources.
ImpulseResponse freq-> 2000 peak->2,0 to 8,0 (the gain mixed to the source) bandwidth-> 20 (the Bandwidth for the ImpulseResponse, this is'nt jconv)
crybaby --->>> it's more or less useless in the curent state of developing, I need to include midiCC suport to make it work with a pedale.
echo %-> 33,3 time-> 182 , for example bring a kind off feedback delay, higher settings for time brings a vintage delay.
feedback/feedforward -> open the amp, feedback works like a filter (sub), reduct the value to open the filter, feedforward works as add, that higher value to bring pressure in the sound.

hope that helps.

to the ladspa state, no, the ladspa plugin only contain the master widget from guitarix, without jconv and without jack_capture. I will build a pluginset from guitarix (split to the advanced setting widgets), but ther is'nt a way to include jconv as plugin.

Re: guitar amp/cab sims with impulse response loading

hey brummer, does the distortion come before the preamp in your chain setup?
you know how if using a real amp, you don't run the distortion through the effects loop, you run it from guitar to amp...
is that the same way guitarix is built?
also, is it possible to get a tube like distortion from the preamp without the distortion or is that in the works?
I've tried to get an overdirven sound without distortion but couldn't get a good one..
