What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

automation with zynaddsubfx | yoshimi

Post by studio32 »

Hi,

I tried doing automation with qtractor (svn) and zynaddsubfx, but I didn't got it working. Maybe someone has experience with it?

Just to be able to do it.

For volume, add a MIDI track and record your Volume MIDI CC-messages. You can then edit them in the Piano Roll by selecting Controller in the second selection box and 7 - Volume (coarse) in the third selection box. Afterwards you should be able to copy and paste this automated volume MIDI part in an existing MIDI track.

Don't understand this part ^

And what should I do in zynaddsubfx? Is there an easy way to check if it works. Do I have to see knobs moving in zyn for example?

Did some testing but with Qtractor 0.4.5 neither Yoshimi or PHASEX pick up the controller CC's. But it did work with Qtractor 0.4.3. Weird.

I hope they'll release a new zynaddsubfx version soon. Automation works very nicely in the zynaddsubfx vst, and I think the regular version will have the same functionality in the next release.

I've been recording some new ideas so I haven't had the time to look into this studio32. No one else has any pointers btw?

as a matter of fact, midi cc7 (volume) and cc10 (pan) were being trapped internally by qtractor, so that main mixer strip controls would prevail at all times instead.

reasons for this (mis-)feature are lost in time. weird thing is that it was present in 0.4.3 and probably several iterations before.

ntl, it is "fixed" on svn trunk (qtractor 0.4.5.1555+)

thanks && enjoy

Code: Select all

Checked out revision 1549.
Does this revision contain the "fix" already? Or maybe I should file a bugreport on Sourceforge, that would be easier for Rui to track down.
