Geekos DAW (libre music-making repository for openSUSE)

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

(open)suse has never let me down for a quarter-a-century already--and believe me, i've been doing it as early as yygdrasil from the '94s--you don't ever change a winning team, that's been the rule here ;)

We make a point to strongly recommend Leap over Tumbleweed because basically, there's less stuff to be broken.

If you mean segfault caused by LTO - yes it was, but it has been fixed:)

Ah, so that was another victim of LTO. :-) I guess that's understandable, that a was a pretty major change. But yeah, I upgraded a test box to Tumbleweed the other day and noticed that Jack was working again. :D

Some updates.

In the past two weeks (more or less) Geekos DAW experienced some build errors on Leap (TW was fine) due to a dependency which shouldn't have been there.

Thanks to our Kott, we fixed that.

I publicly apologize for the inconvenience that it may have caused, reminding you that Geekos DAW is a hobby project ran by volunteers and we are learning a lot as we go.

In the future I will personally be more careful not only about the music-making programs but also about their dependencies.

And a reminder that everyone is welcome to contribute and report us any issues :D

Maybe I should have asked my question in this topic ?

viewtopic.php?f=48&t=21252

I installed Carla from the obs, but get an error when I try to add a (windows) vst , about an invalid elf header.
This vst does work through Vestige. :)

Sure, thanks for asking! Unfortunately I don't use any of the Windows/Wine stuff but I'll page @Kott and @joboschetti let's see if we can figure it out!

My first guess would be, Carla not compiled with wine support.

I have already downloaded the source code, and looked at dependencies, wine is not listed.

This is true for Carla itself, that does not need wine, but to load windows vst, just as LMMS we do need wine. :)

Next thing I want to try is load Amsyth into Carla. No wine needed for that one.

If you want to try Carla from the Geekos DAW repos, support for Windows VSTs can be found in the carla-bridges package.

You can see our .spec here, if you want to change the build yourself.

Hi,
this should work:
If you want to try Carla from the Geekos DAW repos, support for Windows VSTs can be found in the carla-bridges package.
install carla, carla-bridges and carla-bridges-32bit from home:geekositalia:daw
This vst does work through Vestige.
You mean embedded in LMMS Vestige bridge? When I played with LMMS last time it was a bit tricky to compile with both 64/32 bit wine-vestige bridges.
Anyway, I', gonna get in touch LMMS in these days.

I just looked in YAST.

I have wine 32 bit installed, and did not see the 64 bit version in yast, might have to add a repository for that.

From the wine hq webpage:
64-bit Wine runs only on 64 bit installations, and so far has only been extensively tested on Linux. It requires the installation of 32 bit libraries in order to run 32 bit Windows applications. Both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows applications (should) work with it; however, there are still many bugs.
Wonder if they tested 32 bit (windows)VST on 64 bit wine. :P

I am starting to wonder, are there geekos os repositories ?

From yast, 2.0.0+git20190321.20cc5244-2.2

That does not look like a geekos repository.

There is tab "versions" in the Yast2, where you can see from which repo package is.

For Geekos you should add the repo:
https://software.opensuse.org//download ... kage=carla

Sorry for the bump but I wanted to announce that the project is being actively developed and it now has some custom (libre of course) support tooling as well as "subpatterns", in other words a modular way to build a virtual studio. For now we have 4 patterns:

• gdaw-baseapps
• gdaw-chiptune
• gdaw-homerecording
• gdaw-synth

Of course, we plan to add more (for example for computer music, live playing and composition) and everyone is free not to use them and pick-and-choose their own programs! If you have any particular request, just tell us.

Thanks to @joboschetti who's really been focusing on user-friendliness these days!

Link in the first page is broken.
https://geekosdaw.tuxfamily.org/index_en/ was already changed.
Also to fix: Default language of the page is set to Italian
