Does anyone use https://www.gobolinux.org/, https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=gobo?
Since this distribution is ~utterly different, I'd like to know more about it, especially with regard to audio.

Re: GoboLinux
The project caught my attention a couple of years ago, when I read about it in Linux Voice (we still had that back then – as if it were decades ago ). But I was as quick to dump the whole idea as I’d got my interest stirred. I’ve spent over seven years in the Arch ecosystem, maintaining a few AUR packages while at it, and I’ll say Arch is tremendously user-friendly compared to Gobo. I mean, imagine Arch without the main repositories, only AUR – a very, very poor version of it. Sure, it might make sense for very narrowly targeted applications, but you’d have to turn into a regular package maintainer just to stay on top of it. The apparently simplified file structure does nothing to save the day, let alone the fact that it looks a tad too Mac-ish to my tastes.

Re: GoboLinux
Please clarify what you mean. Where I'm from, those syllables can mean several different things based on tone of voice: "that's funny", "no", "keep away!", etc.jonetsu wrote:Ah ah.

I wasn't aware of other ways of using "Ah ah" than to signify some form of laughter/funny thing.Michael Willis wrote: Please clarify what you mean. Where I'm from, those syllables can mean several different things based on tone of voice: "that's funny", "no", "keep away!", etc.
Here it is used in the sense of: "I mentioned Gobo Linux elsewhere as an extreme counter-example of why a company should be choosing one distro to do their QA tests and here khz is asking about how Gobo Linux might fare with audio applications."
Which is funny.
I also mentioned BLFS.

Understood. Maybe I was thinking more like "uh uh".jonetsu wrote: I wasn't aware of other ways of using "Ah ah" than to signify some form of laughter/funny thing.

Re: GoboLinux
Ugah!
I hadn't known anything about the distribution and its completely different approach so far. Only through your hint http://mixbus.harrisonconsoles.com/foru ... l#pid44763.
I like Gentoo because of the "make.conf" and the "USE flags" because they only build the programs with the desired functions for the hardware they use.
But GoboLinux seems to be labor intensive and not so extensive of the packages? I thought to myself: Super, just copy/paste a program is nice.

Re: GoboLinux
Gobo Linux is a natural when coming from a LFS background. That's the reason why I noticed that distro years ago.

Re: GoboLinux
Looks interesting; I don't recall hearing of GoboLinux before.
I'm already using Nixos, though, and going by http://sandervanderburg.blogspot.com/20 ... linux.html I'm inclined to stick with it. It looks like they started around the same time with similar goals, but Nixos does a more complete job of it, in a more elegant way.

I'm slow, but I get there eventually.
