SoundForge Pro 10 and Linux Mint 19

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

SoundForge Pro 10 and Linux Mint 19

Post by Peter1 »

This is my first post.

Hiyall,
I am a music producer/presenter on public radio. My software needs are modest and is totally satisfied by using Sound Forge Pro 10 on a Win7 PC.
(if the truth be known I probably use less than a quarter of that!) and I use Audacity for the occasional mike break and promo.
I am ancient so the thought of having to RE-learn software fills me with trepidation.
I moved to Linux for probably similar reasons as everyone else here - Microsoft has outlived its usefulness.

I'm looking for a r-e-a-l-l-y simple replacement for Sound Forge Pro 10.

Thanks in advance,
Peter1

What are the exact tasks you need to do?
A list would be helpful.

I receive countless CDs from musicians as 1 file. I need to cut them into individual tracks. They come as a variety of bit rates; everything from DSF, 24-192, 24-96, 24-44.1, wav, Apple formats, mp3 (all rates). I rarely allow mp3 on air however on occasions it's unavoidable. All formats are then 'standardised' to mp3 CBR 320.
Editing out silence (usually start and end of track) as well as 'normalize'.
'Click & crackle' removal and 'vinyl restoration' are useful for the occasional ancient vinyl LP.
'Scripting' and 'Batch converter' are used regularly.

Others:
fade, mute, reverse, silence are rarely used but useful.

That's about it!

Cheers,
Peter1
