AV Linux takes very long to boot

Hi, I just installed AV Linux on my laptop, and I've noticed its boot time is very long; from Grub to login screen, it takes 1 minute 2 seconds, while all the other distros I've ever used are in the 10 seconds ballpark.

Additionally, during the booting I get screens and screens of messages, first with the rough big characters you get in the beginning, then another boatload when the characters become smaller. Once the system starts everything seems to work fine, but is this normal?

Checking System Information in AV, the version says "Debian/GNU Linux 9.4", and the date of the manual says 2018.4.12. I've read in AV Linux's site that there's already a newer version that fixes UEFI problems. Could this have to do with the slowness? My laptop came with Linux preinstalled and UEFI disabled, so I've never had to tinker with it. But maybe it could be the culprit, even being disabled? Thank you for any info.

Run "dmesg -H" in a terminal to see if it offers any leads.

OK, you can see there what is taking so long. nmbd (NetBIOS name server to provide NetBIOS over IP naming services to clients) is taking a long time, 25.132 seconds. (For me, it takes 19 miliseconds!) Also, vboxadd is taking too long. (Are you running in Virtual Box?? If not, and you probably shouldn't be, you can remove it.)

Now, the Samba problem seems to be network related, but too many things are taking longer than expected. For sake of comparison, here is what my system shows:

Thank you, I've given up at the moment after suffering other problems (wifi disappeared and nowhere to be recovered, new install from scratch showing the same slowness, locales acting funny...). This is too steep of a learning curve for me atm, but these tools will be very useful when I try next time, maybe in a couple years. Thank you for your help, now I'm back to 'ole Ubuntu Studio, I have to make some music... :)

I keep my home dir on a separate partition, has been with me for many years and many different distros. Never lost any data due to this. Of course if I wipe the root partition and install another distro, I'll most likely need to tweak some stuff in /etc and maybe elsewhere.

Yes, you're right, I guess it's a good practice doing so, due note taken for the future. The thing is my previous distro for a long time has been Puppy Linux, which, on top of running as root, has a strange folder structure, so it took me a while to get a hold of the "normal" Linux file hierarchy.
