What software/combination of software acts the most like an MPC?

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

What software/combination of software acts the most like an MPC?

Post by antimj »

Hi, I tried all the software I know of (LMMS, Rosegarden, Linuxsampler/Qsampler, Mixxx, Carla and it's plugins, and Hydrogen), but none work in the way I would like. Does anyone know if there is a program that lets me load an audio file, clip moments from the file and attach them to keys on my keyboard or midi controller, let me record it, etc. Just a simple sampler drum pad thingy. Please, I'm tired of spending days upon days for this, I just would like some libre software that acts like an mpc. LMMS has the basic ability to do what I'm talking about, but it's tedious, doesn't let me clip multiple parts to different keys, etc. Please help.
Thank you.

Don't know of a program that does all that in one go ..

maybe Shuriken can help you out. It's a beat slicer and can export in multiple formats of which sfz might be the most practical. Load the sfz in Carla or linuxsampler
https://github.com/rock-hopper/shuriken/releases

or Fabla for pure sample playback
http://openavproductions.com/fabla/

still not an MPC replacement though :-/

Slice and each slice is mapped to each own key :)

+1 on shuriken with Petri-foo as a standalone or drumkv1 as an lv2. Petri-foo has a wave editor and bidirectional looping.
