FLOSS version of bandcamp.

Anybody else want to see this?

I do some PHP stuff, and have been thinking a while about creating "bandtent" or something similar, which would let artists sell or give away high quality downloads from their own website, along with music preview and all the other fun stuff bandcamp lets you do without much hassle.

What would be FLOSS about it? That you would give away PHP source? After all services like Bandcamp don't do much computing - its all a bunch of html put together.

Also, I created a similar service basically at the same time Bandcamp launched theirs - www.disc-shelf.com. Allows you to create albums and embed into your website.

Yes, source would be given away, and it would run locally on an artist's server. Bandcamp does do lots of computing actually: transcoding wavs into other lossy and lossless formats with metadata, coupon tracking, analytics, checkout + payment. Their service is more than just a bunch of html. See http://bandcamp.com/features

I agree.
Well, decentralized system does sound interesting, indeed!
