After following the discussion on homerecording.be (yes, I can understand dutch), I felt I needed to write a short article concerning our motivations. You can read it here on our blog:

Sad, isn't it, that one actually needs to justify using free software.

Yeah, people are not neutral about Linux and people who uses it... So several people seems to buy expensive software to be accepted in the market, unless they rather work with GNU/Linux/ARdour....spm_gl wrote:After following the discussion on homerecording.be (yes, I can understand dutch), I felt I needed to write a short article concerning our motivations. So it's nice you're clever enough to realy choose what's best for you and your studio, respect!
BTW maybe you can post a message on that homerecording board, I think they will understand English or even German there too.

I don't have time for flame wars and actually find it quite amusing reading people discussing our studio. People who neither know us nor have ever been here.

It's a shame that most people generally frown upon Open-Source. The masses have always been extremely ignorant. I blame television

There is an interesting tread at The Womb on this very subject - which started out almost becoming another flame war, but grew into something quite productive, and even shaped the way ardour 2.8.3 will be in a few aspects.

Re: Why Linux for Audio
There were a lot of small problems in the 2.8.2 GUI that caused problems for first time users, notably from users coming from the non-free DAW world. One of the forum members, while being a little abrasive, tipped Paul and Ben Loftis off to many of these issues. Old ardour users are oblivious to these issues, as we have learned to work with it as it is.
The new ardour cheat sheet is also a spin-off of the fixes Paul made...
Now we just have to wait for 2.8.3 to arrive...
