Installing Ubuntu Studio

I'm going to install Ubuntu Studio on my PC. I will run both win 7 and Ubuntu Studio.

Should I do the harddisk parttition thing before starting up Ubuntu Studio from the USB and the installing it (i.e. choosing the freed space allready made in win 7, then to install Ubuntu Studio onto)?

Or should I do the harddisk parttitioning during the actual installation of Ubuntu Studio from the USB memory?

Personally I've always let the Ubuntu installer handle the partitioning.

I prefer to do partitioning before installing
then choose manual install option ('do something else')
because automatic installs can create a different partition layout

there is not usually much difference either way to how partitions are created

I suggest you use Windows if you want to shrink its own partition, and then the Ubuntu installer for the rest (manual option).
There are reports of Windows not wanting to boot up after its partition was shrunk with Linux. I'm not sure if this is still the case, but it is unnecessary to risk it.
