Sound suddenly distorted...

Post by basementmedia »

Hey there,

since i have installed ubuntu studio 18.04 and mixbus 32C i have the following problem:

i start mixbus, record or play some stuff and everything is fine.
But then (sometimes sooner, sometimes later) the sound suddenly is distorted / crackling.
I have to exit mixbus and (via Cadence) restart the Jack server to solve the problem.
Sometimes also this not solves the problem and i have to restart the system.

Do you have any suggestions what could be the problem?

Any help is appreciated... ;-(
By the way: i use a RME Fireface 800 and a octamic 2 ADAT connected.

Greetings Daniel

Are you sure that you have to use Cadence in combination w/ Mixbus? I use neither so i don't know. I think that Cadence is used for making Midi connections, am I right? You might try to use Qjackctl for that for a while or use only Mixbus for that (if that's at all possible in Mixbus). For instance: Qtractor has it's own Jack connection window so you don't need Qjackctl. The more applications work together, the more difficult it is to point the finger at the "guilty" app that breaks things...

No, it's more or less the same thing as qjackctl.

What settings are you using in cadence? Sounds like you might be using too low a buffer size?
