Firefox + Soundcloud balance strangeness
Not sure if related to viewtopic.php?f=27&t=18062
But anyway, I'm on KDE Neon 16.04 with KXStudio, using Firefox 64, and pulse bridge in Cadence…
I've found that if I listen to Soundcloud in Firefox, one side of the stereo stream is much quieter than the other. This doesn't happen on other websites in Firefox or in any other browser or program that I've found. Just the FF + Soundcloud combo.
Any ideas??

I remember such a problem some time ago. It was a bug in Firefox that was fixed in the next version.wolftune wrote:Not sure if related to viewtopic.php?f=27&t=18062

Ha! With a Focusrite 2i4 I have the same problem. I think it's caused by Pulseaudio: pavumeter shows activity on 3 channels: front left, front right, rear left and no signal on rear right.
With Youtube pavumeter shows activity on 4 channels.
Maybe Pulseaudio can be be tweaked.
EDIT:
I could force 2 channels in /etc/pulse/default.pa with "channels=2" for jack-sink
load-module module-jack-sink channels=2

Re: Firefox + Soundcloud balance strangeness
I would think there is a simple option to enable/disable for this but I don't see anything immediate in the man pages. It does say this though:
https://linux.die.net/man/5/pulse-daemon.conf
I think you just need to add this to your ~/.pulse/daemon.conf (create it if it doesn't exist).
This seems to back that up - https://askubuntu.com/questions/900290/ ... ound-sound
Code: Select all
enable-remixing= If disabled never upmix or downmix channels to different channel maps. Instead, do a simple name-based matching only. Defaults to yes.

Code: Select all
enable-remixing = no

Re: Firefox + Soundcloud balance strangeness
I already have it set to just 2 channels per viewtopic.php?f=47&t=18531&p=93046&hili ... ack#p93046
And if I turn of the remixing, I won't get stereo speakers for any mono input to pulse. So, that's not a worthwhile and doesn't help in this case anyway.

Try running pavumeter. Are there only 2 channels (bars) displayed?wolftune wrote:I already have it set to just 2 channels per viewtopic.php?f=47&t=18531&p=93046&hili ... ack#p93046

Yes, as I said, I set pulse to only 2 channels (as mentioned in the link I posted above). pavumeter confirms, two channels but one is much quieter than the other.bluebell wrote:Try running pavumeter.
