You could do a test with an Iso Image (avlinux) if it comes from the system or interface/computer combination.

Re: Rare clicks/crackles when using 44100 (sync problem?)
I read some older threads again. At sequencer I wrote that the esi dac nano worked fine with 44.1 and 48kHz.
Then I stumbled again over the properties of the zoom R8 https://www.thomann.de/de/zoom_r8.htm
It seems that in usb mode it only runs with 96kHz. This would explain the problems at 44.1 kHz.

Re: Rare clicks/crackles when using 44100 (sync problem?)
I'll stay with that setup: jackd on 48000 avoids clicks (I think I had some one recordings, too).bluebell wrote: jackd with 48000 on Scarlett 2i4 (recording, direct monitoring, headphones)
alsa_out with 44100 on Scarlett 2i2 (active speakers)
-> works (huh?)
But can anyone explain why alsa_out works with 44100 better than with 48000? That's beyond my understanding.

It's Audacity! Whenever I start Audacity after alsa_out is started with another rate than 44100 then alsa_out has to be killed/restarted. Don't know what Audacity does.bluebell wrote:I'll stay with that setup: jackd on 48000 avoids clicks (I think I had some one recordings, too).bluebell wrote: jackd with 48000 on Scarlett 2i4 (recording, direct monitoring, headphones)

So, is it part of the problem or are all problems solved now. I was just reading my old threads and now I'm completely confused.

Me, too. I can run alsa_out on 48000 and 96000 too, as long as I don't start Audacity or kill/start alsa_out after starting Audacity.lilith wrote:So, is it part of the problem or are all problems solved now. I was just reading my old threads and now I'm completely confused.
Bad, Audacity, bad!

When I install jackd1 instead of jackd2 then alsa_out behaves different: it crashes as soon as I start Audacity.

Re: Rare clicks/crackles when using 44100 (sync problem?)
Audacity seems to do bad things. That might explain the crashing/misbehaving alsa_out after starting Audacity:
https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopi ... 9&start=30
"2. Audacity does alter system sound settings; in my case see the HPF setting on Xonar (or other reports with Skype problems after Audacity). I think this is what happens when it crashes the Audigy drivers, by forcing incorrect settings, after incorrect reading of the system configuration."
Is there another Open Source software like audacity? Should be able to record from jack sources, cut start/end, fade in/out and write wav-files.

I have a suspicion that it's Audacity's ALSA code that does bad things so I'll see if Ican compile Audacity with JACK support only.

Can't even find a configure option in Audacity, so I'll use the solution described in viewtopic.php?f=27&t=18785

Re: Rare clicks/crackles when using 44100 (sync problem?)
I tried to find a solution in the ALSA IRC channel and came to the conclusion that my 44.1 kHz crackling is caused by a bug in alsa, which is resolved in newer kernels.
