Hi there
This is really confusing! So I've got qtracktor sending MIDI data to an external drum machine. It took me a while to get this working but eventually I figured out that I needed to open qjackctl's Connections, go into the ALSA tab, and connect up Qtractor in the readable clients to the right MIDI thing in the writable clients.
Now I've fired up Yoshimi and assumed it would be much the same to get Qtractor to send MIDI data to Yoshimi. But no! When I open qjackctl's Connections, and open the ALSA tab, Yoshimi isn't there as a writable client. However, it *is* there in the writable clients in the MIDI tab! But there are no other readable or writable clients listed in the MIDI tab, so I can't connect anything else up to Yoshimi.
What determines whether a MIDI client turns up in the ALSA tab or the MIDI tab? How do I send MIDI to Yoshimi?
Thanks
Bobby

Which version of Yoshimi are your running?
For all recent ones you can set it up as you please.
From the main window go to Yoshimi->Settings...->Alsa
Here you can set both MIDI and audio preferences.
You will then need to save and restart Yoshimi.
After this your preferences will be remembered.

Re: Yoshimi doesn't show in ALSA tab of qjackctl
It's the version from the Ubuntu repository. 1.5.0.
Thanks for your suggestion, but I don't know what I need to change! In the ALSA settings, I have the following options:
Alsa MIDI Source -> default
Set as preferred MIDI -> unchecked
Also audio device -> default
Set as preferred audio -> unchecked
Samplerate -> 48000
Can you advise?
Thanks
Bobby
