Cadence and Laptop inbuilt audio question

Post by clendee »

Hi folks,
Im new to the forum and I appreciate having a place to
post my linux audio question, so thanks for that.

Im running Cadence on a Lenovo T410 with Ubuntu 16.04
My inbuilt laptop sound card does not work at all for playing youtube
or any other audio related software when my usb Focusrite audio card
is unplugged.

When I use Cadence, my external audio card works fine.
I have also installed pulseaudio-module-jack to bridge the audio.

I'd appreciate any comments or advice about this,

Many thanks.

Hi folks,

I just want to let you know I solved this problem.

To use my inbuilt laptop audio:
It turns out I needed to open Cadence and click configure
and change the audio input device and output device to
my laptops inbuilt sound card.

To use my external USB Focusrite:
Open Cadence and select my audio card as external usb
card.

Apologies if this seems really obvious, it wasnt obvious to
me.

None of that is obvious when you're just starting out.

Welcome to the Linux audio world! I hope you'll make great music with opensource software :)

Hi Unfa,

Thanks for responding to my message, though it was many moons ago I sent it.

Thanks also for your current Ardour videos on YouTube.

I am constantly jumping back and forth between Ableton and Ardour, however with
Ableton my workflow is so much quicker, though I love Linux and all it has to offer.

Im sooooo slow on Ardour, and I find it a bit of a nightmare for midi stuff.
Especially when I own a Push 1 and LanuchControl XL which is just seamless with
the Ableton world.

Please keep the videos coming as Ive been watching them in parts.

Kind regards,

Wayne.
