Linux-rt kernel and usb mouse/keyboard

Post by AnthonyCFox »

I'm getting ready to install a non-stock kernel https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/linux-rt/

Both the Linuxaudio wiki's "System Configuration" page and ArchWiki's "Pro Audio" page recommend a real time kernel; neither make any mention of usb mouse/keyboards.

But, kernel.org's wiki "HOWTO: Build an RT-application" advises using ps/2 with a real time kernel. They don't mention pro audio, but I have seen some less authoritative documentation that supports ps/2 for pro audio.

Is anyone here using a real time kernel with usb mouse/ keyboard?

I could go with Liquorix's low latency kernel but, after a year of the Ubuntu way (because I didn't understand jack well enough to do it on my own; thanks FalkTX!) I've knocked off the training wheels and I'm back on Arch. Now, I can have the best Linux has to offer. I just have to read a lot more documentation and not install packages willy-nilly. :lol:

Yes. I’m running the rt kernel on Arch, with (cordless) USB mouse and keyboard. Never had any kind of problem.

Perfect. That's what I was looking for, thanks!

If you don’t want to wait while the kernel compiles, an up-to-date binary is available in the Archaudio Production repository. Just add

Code: Select all

[archaudio-production]
SigLevel = Optional TrustAll
Server = http://repos.archaudio.org/$repo/$arch
to your /etc/pacman.conf.

I use a USB mouse/keyboard & a USB audio interface. Moreover, I run my usb-hid polling frequency at 500Hz (default is 120Hz IIRC). No problems.
