While I think it's perfectly possible to design an audio-plugin based on X11, this is quite difficult for more complex programs (GUI-wise, I mean, of course audio plugins are complex).

fltk used to be a nice, very small toolkit that allows for static linking. There are other toolkits, but fltk used to be a very nice and small (!) toolkit.

Oh, any toolkit has it's drawbacks, and so has fltk. Thread save file browser isn't possible, for example.
As I've ported already the GxPlugin suite to X11, I'm familiar with X11 already. Together with cairo, it is very suitable for lv2 plugins.
Check out the GxPlugins suite for that:
https://github.com/brummer10/GxPlugins.lv2
or the KPP suite:
https://github.com/olegkapitonov/Kapitonov-Plugins-Pack

more than that, a couple of LV2 plugs been based on X11, take:
https://lsp-plug.in/

even the distro plugs use under the hut X11. (and so do fltk)
On the road again.

@artofmusic @Musicteacher

If you spend any time on Ardour's IRC channel you would soon realize how many hours of developers time there has been wasted with problems with QT and GTK (gtkmm etc.) when used with plugins. X11 is definitely the way to go for compatibility with all hosts.

@tramp

Congrats on another great release and for all your hard work on Guitarix, GXPlugins and the MOD Duo! I'll look forward to trying the X11 UI's in the future! I absolutely love the Cream Machine on my MOD!

Nice to hear that. So you may be interested to hear that there are now two more of my plugs in the store, it's the ValveCaster and the BoobTube, two overdrive pedals:

and a couple of freebies been in the pipe, waiting for acceptance of the Store manager.
