Commercial Carla clone "Gig Performer 2"

Post by bluebell »

Found today: https://recording.de/magazin/testberich ... er-2.5058/

But I think it can't act as a plugin as Carla can.

I would buy something really different or definitively better than all open source software, but Carla is all I need for now for these kind of tasks.

I am using GigPerformer and took a look at carla.
The only similar thing is how plugins are connected.

The rest is totally different!
GigPerformer is all but not a clone of Carla.

Features likfe patch persist, predicitve load (important when you have to load many plugins for a show).
Audio Player, the concept of variations, Widgets to design your layout for each song, scripting language for dealing with midi manipulation and
controlling the behaviour when playing sounds.
The list is endless.
Not to forget excellent professional support.

You really should test GigPerfomer and you will see, that carla is maybe nice for playing something.
But in Live situations I would never use Carla.

Is there a GPL (3/foobar) GNU/Linux (LV2) version of it?

OK, you are talking about Linux.
Yes you are right there is no Linux version.

Plugins supported VST, AU, VST3: This are the most used version on Windows and Mac.
You are right it is not a plugin version because it is a VST host, like Mainstage.

What do you mean by that "can it be used to load single plugins for quick testing? "
GigPerformer can automatically scan any new or all plugins on the system.
If a plugin fails validation it is disabled but you can see it in a list, so you can check.

The Audioplayer in GigPerformer is fully remote controllable, for example automatically start a playback when switching
a so called Rackspace.
You can automatically mute or unmute channels in Audio Player.
You can automate volume changes etc via scripting language etc.

When I load a project, is that just for 1 Rack?

Or can be multiple racks loaded and I can switch between them?
When I hold notes on a sound (strings for example) and swithc to a different rack for playing Piano, is the string sound truncated or does
it play until I release the keys and play new notes with the selected piano sound?

The placement and title of this topic was quite misleading, I was rather disappointed to find out, after several minutes of frantically scrutinizing the linked article and product web page, that this is a Windows/Mac only product.

I hear what pianopaul means about it being a very capable, professionally supported product, and I'm not detracting from that, but, just mentioning (with some shameless self-advertising) that this:

and some more can be done with Konfyt (http://www.noedig.co.za/konfyt/). While Konfyt can't host plugins, it can easily be used in combination with Carla which then gives you some of the features that Gig Performer provides.
