It was recommended by me, as it stabilize the GxAmplifier plugins in Ardour ( preventing this Bug https://github.com/FFTW/fftw3/issues/16 )
For guitarix main it isn't necessary.

Ah, yes that one again, it's a pain. I'll try to give the Gx plugins another round of testing in Ardour whenever possible and report back.
I still have the impression that the latest version of ffmpeg is sightly inferior to fftw3 in terms of clarity (I never noticed before, so it cannot be so bad either). But this is not just a matter of EQ, the mids are really more muddy, at least for a die hard fan of the Presence control like me ;-)

Regarding FFTW3, I tested a bit more and I can actually hear a difference between the bundled zita libs and the external ones - with that particular test preset at 96khz. With the internal zita libs, low mids are slightly more prevalent, whether with the external ones it sounds sharper (more like the inverted mustache EQ). Nothing to write a book about though, this is really marginal.

I can also upload the 4 different arch linux binaries if that can help.

Update: no issue whatsoever with the Gx Amplifier in Ardour (5.10 git) when building Guitarix with FFTW3 and the external zita libs.
I didn't test extensively all the other plugins though, and ran only at 96k, but it looks all good now.
So I'll keep the AUR pkgbuild this way for now unless someone complains.

Thanks for testing it out, good to know that all works nicely now. :)

Other than that, I've set up a repository for ubuntu 16.04 and 16.10 for those who would get the latest stable releases of guitarix.
Instructions are here:

Latest version is 0.35.6
On the road again.
