A new Low...
Really, I posted about once-yearly black-friday sale pricing
on the best available linux plugins, and the posts get deleted?
Wow. Time to rename this place!
If you had the gumption to create a Marketplace forum,
like every other significant musicians website has,
I would have placed the topics there...
But apparently a big-fish-little-pond clique here dominates or IS the moderation,
got to protect innocent foss minds in the small pond from commercial products
that could broaden their horizons. Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!!!
Pathetic.

Re: A new Low...
Greetings,
I reviewed the site's mission statement and posting guidelines. I note especially that :
As a long-time Linux user I agree, this is just wrong on the part of LM. I've worked and waited many years for high-quality music software for Linux. If indeed the music comes first - true for any real musician, I should think - then we do ourselves a disfavor by ignoring important and useful developments, particularly if they come from non-FLOSS worlds. And denying yourself an effective tool - for whatever non-musical reason you choose - is just foolish from the purely musical point of view.
Linux politics have plenty of other site representation. Linux musicans do not. It's hard enough to get solid and correct information about Linux audio, we don't need to make an effort to hide it further.
My two pfennigs.
Best regards,
dp

Re: A new Low...
It was clearly a advertisement, with the only purpose to sell a product, without any further information. Even if you believe the price is hot, it is what it is.glowrak guy wrote:Really, I posted about once-yearly black-friday sale pricing

I have reported your post for this reason, sure, I requested to move your post to backstage talk, but I'm happy with that it gets removed completely.
This here is a forum, to talk about stuff, not a Advertising channel.
Advertising already happen on KVR, isn't that enough for interested parts?
Some people may feel exactly the opposite, for example, if one mention here, that he prefer FLOSS, the shitstorm, from a big-fish-little-pond clique started.glowrak guy wrote:But apparently a big-fish-little-pond clique here dominates

@tramp, thanks for stating your reasons. I do disagree.
Since when does 'money' define what an advertisement is?
I have advertised guitarix updates several times at KVR
Also advertised the MOD project, which will sell for the same kinds of money
as Diva, Discovery Pro etc. the sale prices which I posted.
In my book, it's not an advertisement unless the one posting
the information profits financially from the sale. By your own standards,
you must now refuse to mention MOD being sold, as well as
any supporting software in the bundle, and warn the moderator(s)
of others who mention them.
So the fundamental question is, when does creating and then selling
something to earn a living become so eeevil, that it's mere mention should be deleted?
You really want to live in such a cold restrictive world?
Anyway, a Marketplace forum would be good on many levels,
people get laid off, injured etc, need money, must sell something,
and quite a few people here have some level of trust.
btw, by April, I should have enough saved for a MOD.
Hope the adds don't all get deleted

I don't want to see shilling here of any kind, free or not. If they have a new release then post about it.

Re: A new Low...
"Linux Musicians"
I understand it as "anything of interest for a guy (or girl) trying to make music on Linux based OS", no?
Personally, if it runs on Linux and is either audio SW or HW, whether that's a new release or timely price cut I'd like to know about it.
But yeah, proprietary stuff should at least be identified...I remember posting a thing or two about some of them and that didn't trigger a flamewar, but I'm not too sure anymore where to draw the line.
Maybe to keep butts unhurt on both sides it could be useful to have a Commercial Software section, or is that off topic?

Re: A new Low...
I'm a little surprised by this. I understand removing double posts or cross posts about it for sure, but I think there should be a place for this sort of thing in the LM forums. I think a marketplace would be a good idea. Is nobody here interested in promotional information or are they really not welcome to discuss it here? Seems like we're limiting ourselves if we say such people should go to kvr. Not the best way to build a community.falkTX wrote:If it's just a sale or promotion, then it has no place here.

Re: A new Low...
+1 to a sub-forum for postings like this one and/or commercial products in general. I for one would have enjoyed seeing the post and may have benefited from the information.
I love/use/support open source, but I'm open to any tools, FOSS or commercial, that can help Linux musicians make music. If it's commercial, available on Linux, AND on sale, it's kind of an odd policy to not let us share that information on a forum about making music on Linux. A subforum would allow those not interested to not have to look at it.

Re: A new Low...
I didn't post the information twice, if it was a 'double post', just delete one.falkTX wrote:If it's a new release of something, then yes it deserves to be posted.

EDIT: You posted twice in a very short time, that's why I deleted them.
One kind of post in a few months should be ok, if it's really something you care about.
If you want to move a post elsewhere, leave a brief where/why message, and then lock.
Netiquette 101
As mentioned above, the post didn't violate any obvious forum rules, and might have
helped people to stock their studio, or fill out a Christmas shopping list.
"then it has no place here"
If you now own and fund the forum, you can of course call the shots,
and the owner can of course make you a global moderator, with bossman authority, but
-somebody- should spend the 10 minutes needed to ammend the rules...
And then develope a basic marketplace. Doesn't need to be fancy,
buyers/sellers can PM for details.
Or you could just rename the forum something like, www.fossmusicians.com
and let faTony moderate...
Cheers

Have you ever checked the little Exclamation mark you can see in the upper right corner when you logged in?glowrak guy wrote:As mentioned above, the post didn't violate any obvious forum rules,
Try it, and just check the very first entry in the drop down list you'll see then.
As I've pointed out in my first post here in this thread, or, at least I've tried to point it out, as it seems you didn't get the point.
You've posted just a advertisement, without any further information. The only info you gave was, "Hey, the price is hot now, come on, buy it, NOW!!!" Such posts remind me on the little flyers coming into your house, were the carpet dealers promise you a real cheap price, only now, just this weekend. Just that those little flyers coming every week.
However, you ain't give valuable information with your posts, nothing about usability, you didn't told if you've purchased the stuff you advertise. Even automated spam bots, give more attention in there posts then you did here. And now, you are winning about that your posts gets deleted, and how is fault, sure, it must be those stupid FLOSS people, as they ever been the faulty.
Come on, re-think your stance and try to be smart. Learn how to behave and post in a forum like this, and help us to make this a nice place for ALL of us.
And while we are on it, how stupid is that: http://www.fossmusicians.com
it should be
http://www.flossmusicians.org
On the road again.

Re: A new Low...
And look again what you've done on KVR : once again a "going nuts" thread showing a very bad idea of Linux audio possibilities. People just flaming each other : sterile. Of course, I may believe that you are just sincere and enthusiastic, but think twice before flooding, and you"ll have less problems.
