New AV Linux Kernel Repository now public!
Hi,
Just passing along that we are making our AV Linux RT kernel repository
public. Current users of AV Linux 2016 have this set up by default, it may
be of interest to users of Debian Jessie and up and perhaps Ubuntu users
although we haven't tested Ubuntu specifically so feedback is needed.
Full story here: http://bandshed.net/forum/index.php?topic=3719.0
Thanks!
Glen

Re: New AV Linux Kernel Repository now public!
Quick question. Does it still carry support for the Audiophile 2496 sound card? I did an upgrade on one of my machines recently and after much puzzlement discovered that the upgrade had removed the driver

To my knowledge the 2496 was supported in the 4.1.5 AVL 2016 release kernel, I cannot see any reason why it would be any different in the latest 4.4 kernel, it certainly would not be disabled in the kernel config on purpose, but sometimes things happen upstream in the Kernel without our knowledge . I don't have that card here to test explicitly but I'm quite sure we must have ice1712 module support.
Both the 4.1.5 and the latest 4.4 should be available in the repo for you to try. If you do try it out please post back and confirm this if you don't mind.

Re: New AV Linux Kernel Repository now public!
Ah! I realise I wasn't clear.
It was a ubuntu machine I was upgrading, not AV Linux.
I'm off to Berlin in the morning for a week (holiday + miniLAC2016), so I'll try and take a look at AVLinux when I get back.

OK,
Have a safe trip and enjoy yourself, I can't afford to cross the pond this year but I had a great time meeting you (and others) at LAC2014, Hoist a pint and say Ein Prosit!! for me.. . Perhaps by the time you get back we'll have some more feedback on the 2496 and how well the AVL Kernels work with Ubuntu.

Hi Craig!CraigPid wrote:I installed the new AVL and the 2496 worked.
Thanks for the report, just to double check is this confirmed working with the default AVL kernel it came with? Or an install of AVL2016 with the 4.4 kernel update?

Hi!
Thanks very much for that report! We will look into it and fix this with the next update. In the meantime 4.1.5 will be the ticket for folks with ice1712 cards.

Oops, hey wait!CraigPid wrote:I installed the kernel 4.4.0-1-amd64 from Synaptic. The audiophile 2496 does not work with it.
If you installed 4.4.0 then that is Debian's kernel not our AV Linux RT kernel. The AV Linux kernel is called "linux-image-4.4.6-rt13-avl1". The broken ice1712 modules is a known bug in the Debian and Ubuntu 4.4.X kernels.

Re: New AV Linux Kernel Repository now public!
I will give that kernel a try. I assume you would find it in Synaptic. I was having a hard time finding a 64 bit rt kernel there. I guess I didn't see the avl one.

Hey!falkTX wrote:hey, thanks for the nice kernel!
I just installed it in Ubuntu 14.04 and it actually works!
I only have 1 complaint. The 64bit build does not have 32bit binary format support, so I cannot run stuff like skype and wine while using this kernel.
Besides that everything seems to be working.
KDE takes longer to load for some reason, but eventually everything starts up.
Great work!
Thanks for the report, I think it's very possible we may have also got bitten by the ice1712 bug so I think for various reasons there will probably be an updated version fairly soon and I'll add that to the list of needed things..
