Nice use of gradient in the default setup! Wish there was a CD sized iso.
Cheers

Thanks!

Actually your comment made me think... I'm sure people may wonder why AV Linux ISO's are usually quite large. It is because in addition to a full OS you are also getting a full development, packaging and remastering environment. If I can compile and package something for AV Linux so can you! Want to build the latest Ardour, Qtractor or Guitarix from GIT or SVN ? No problem all the required dev libs as well as GIT and SVN themselves are there waiting for you.. In addition as time has moved on I've had to rely more on bundled binary packaging for some applications, apps like Mixbus and Blender eat up considerable ISO Disk space and don't compress very much when made into a squashfs filesystem..

There is no correlation with the ISO being large and the OS being bloated, I think you'll find that although there is a lot of stuff on there AVL runs quite fast and efficiently even in a VM or on older single core Computers..

I didn't mean to imply that AV is slow, simply because of the iso size.
I've never heard a negative review of your many releases.
I just don't use a wide range of software, as found on multi-gig dvds,
and don't like downloading dvd sized images,
as it chews up the bandwidth limit. There are several good distros available at CD size,
which can be added too, or reduced further. An infrastructure-only AVLinux would be
fun to test. Maybe one of the linux magazines would feature your system on a cover dvd someday?
Have you contacted any of them?
Cheers

glowrak guy,

No worries, I didn't think you were implying anything, I was just making a generalized response from your question to explain some things..

Over the years there have been a few magazine tie-ins, the German 'Beat' magazine did an issue on FLOSS and a "Beat Edition" AV Linux 3.1 was used for a series of workshops the month that issue was released, Linux Format did a nice print article a couple of years ago but I don't know if they shipped a DVD or not... Oh and then there was the nice person selling USB keys with Dream Studio and AV Linux on eBay...

No I'm afraid not for this release which is an update and extension of the existing 6.X series. libc is something that needs very careful consideration to change. Truthfully plugin developers should take notes from falkTX, Drumgizmo, Guitarix and others and build their plugins on mature systems (and libc versions) to ensure maximum compatibility..

I use the occasion to write here, because i lost my account details from the AVLinux forums (and tons of other accounts).
First of all, big congrats for GMaq.
I wonder why there is a note not recommending AVlinux for GPT partitions. I didn't test this one yet (the torrent seems stuck) but all previous versions from 5.x onwards had been successfully used on a GPT partition. There was an issue with the installer forcing me to install a swap partition.
What can i say? Debian Jessie is already in release freeze and it looks like the Debian-Multimedia maintainers has done a pretty good job in this release cycle.
Personally for me using a Debian-oldstable system for everyday desktop is simply impossible. Otherwise i would re-install immediately.

@falkTX You are right of course. AVLinux is the great example of how a Linux Multimedia system should look in general.

But it seems the new .iso is dropped down :(

Hi,

Regarding the torrents situation, they are provided by a member of the AVL forum who sets them up out of his own generosity, he recently moved to some new torrent hosting software so perhaps there is an unforeseen complication.. he is aware of the problem and I'm sure will fix it as soon as possible. Please be patient and I'll post with an update once the issue get figured out.

@thetotalchaos

The GPT issue has been reported by a few folks on the forum (you may recognize one of them): http://www.remastersys.com/forums/index ... pic=3185.0

Regarding Jessie... yep it looks like the best Debian so far for multimedia content, add the KX Repos and kaboom something amazing has happened! as you know AV Linux is simply one small choice of many..

Is there a technical issue or concern forcing you to stick your system to Debian Oldstable, because the way i see it, at this point its must have cost you a far greater effort to maintain a Squeeze system it this point in time instead of making a time adequate distribution. i Myself and guessing a significant part on the community will offer help and assistance keepind an up-tp-date out-of-the-box and reliable multimedia distribution.
BTW the new iso is still down!

hey at least I got a pc (screen) monitor and a midi keyboard from it, so I can't complain. :D
plus I also got to know the code base a bit from which I'm basing my midi sequencer on...
Then I'll take back my words :)

I have a known, working, stable base with numerous tweaks and improvements in the base distribution itself, my kernel and DE are far newer than Debian Stable and I have some items like SLiM and Nautilus 2.30 that have yet to be improved upon and work perfectly and efficiently but are now obsolete or deprecated. Although I have a great working relationship with the Remastersys developer he has discontinued Remastersys which has enabled a non-developer like myself to create and share AV Linux. But most of all to be honest and I've been very clear about this in the past, with KX Debian repos available for all current Ubuntu and Debian releases in both 64bit and 32bit architectures (including Debian testing) AV Linux is not a future need... which is sincerely great and truly all credit for that goes to falkTX! I'm not in this for myself and I can plainly see when something better has come along... and KX Repos+KX ISO's have arrived!

AV Linux filled a legitimate need for a few years, AV Linux can still fill a need in the now on it's current base and with the high quality and production readiness of the applications this time around it will enable people to 'Install and Create' on decent spec legacy (and reasonably new) hardware for quite some time. Beyond that what do you want me to do? Take a Debian testing ISO slap in the KX repos and stick my own wallpaper on it? NOT!!
