Thanks for all the encouraging messages, really appreciated!
This week we talk to a well known face around here; GMaq, or Glen MacArthur, the creator and maintainer of AVLinux. He's also a great musician, and he's probably one of the few Linux distro maintainers also running a farm .

If you want to interview Julien and haven't reached out to him yet – without wanting to steal his thunder – you need to do so fast. As in, contact him within the next week and get something set up in the next couple of weeks.zth wrote:And yes, I can tell you as much as all of the mentioned are on my wishlist. However, I haven't reached out to all of them yet. But you're right on the money for who I want to interview at least .

That story about the master tapes getting eaten... thats the saddest thing I've heard all week. Thank heavens for modern digital storage.

Re: The Friday Interview
Hi Thad,
Thanks very much for taking time to read and of course a huge thanks to Gabbe for the amazing work on all of the interviews so far!
I kind of feel bad because I missed mentioning a couple of other great Multimedia Distributions (both also on Debian...man this elevator is getting full ). It was great to see the re-emergence of Musix on Distrowatch which I didn't notice until last night and also io GNU/Linux which is a bit newer but also present here at LM's, I have to admit I haven't had the pleasure of meeting their respective developers personally (yet) so they slipped my mind when doing the interview but of course they deserve mention as well and I apologize for not including them in the list of Debian 'brethren'.

GMaq,
Debian Wheezy will not be a complete and satisfying experience, until you put your signature on it.

Re: The Friday Interview
A great interview with a great fellow of Linux audio. Thanks for the props, G, my wife split a gut when she read "wise and humble" in reference to me.
Nice place you got there, Glenn, we'll have to come visit someday.
Best,

Re: The Friday Interview
A great read Dave and Gabbe!
A gentleman, scholar, great musician, composer and journalist... wow that's quite a list. Thanks to a true pillar of the Linux Audio community, it is no exaggeration to say that things really would not be the same without you Dave. You've made a HUGE difference with your numerous contributions and very much helped shape what we know as Linux Audio today.
Kudos and Congrats!

Re: The Friday Interview
Cool, I was looking forward to these interviews with Glen and Dave...
300 acre farm... damn! I have 0.1 acre
I agree, totalchaos... if there's no AVLinux 7 it will be sorely missed. But if Glen doesn't have the energy for it, even with falkTX handling packaging, there are others of us ready to follow his example!
"my focus has narrowed to what I can achieve with a few tools in what seems to be sparser amounts of time"... yup!

Re: The Friday Interview
Hey zth, I've just discovered your website and I just wanted to say thank you for such a great resource, really fascinating interviews.
Re: The Friday Interview
sysrqer and Thad, thanks a lot for the kind words!
8th interview here, this week with Julien Claassen. Julien's a long time member of the community, and he does something as special as composing big complex songs using only text-based applications, as he's blind. Very inspiring!
The interview series will take a 2 week break with this post, and will be back again on the 13th of December. Cheers!
