[ANN] Vee One Suite 0.3.4 - Brand new icons ready

Post by rncbc »

hi july

yet another batch of the Vee One Suite of old-school software instruments is out: synthv1 [1] polyphonic synthesizer, samplv1 [2] polyphonic sampler and drumkv1 [3] drum-kit sampler, this time presenting their brand new icons while dropping the lamest old-schooler's out, in a master lesson taught by Jarle Richard Akselsen, thanks.

all still available in dual form:

- a pure stand-alone JACK client with JACK-session, NSM (Non session management) and both JACK MIDI and ALSA MIDI input support;
- a LV2 instrument plugin.

all free, open-source Linux Audio software, distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2 or later.

here goes the new triumvirate bunch again:

Hi rncbc!

I was trying to install SynthV1 (standalone version, I believe) on my debian notebook, and the terminal indicated I need qt 4.4 or higher. Since qt 4.4 or higher is not in the debian repos, I went to the qt website and downloaded the library and started the install.

It was taking longer to install that library than it takes me to do a complete OS install! (so I quit the install)

What was I doing wrong? I don't remember such a laborious process on KXStudio...

-I can't wait to try out this new version! :)

Thanks for your work, Rui. These apps are getting better and better. Some presets would be awesome to show their potential.

I hope to have some more time this month to do just that! :)

But I need to know what's up with the Qt library. Is it really necessary to go through the whole configure-make-makeinstall procedure? I can't seem to find the library in the debian repos..

I've no Idea which debian version you use, may it is old-old-stable? :)
Otherwise there is libqt4-dev version 4.6 in squeeze and version 4.8 in wheezy.
On the road again.

Thanks! Got it! (I'm using Wheezy, newest version of antiX.) I just didn't see it in the repos yesterday.. burnout I guess... :D

Is there a way to get mono capability out of synthV1? I don't see it anywhere, it would be nice for making leads...

i wonder if it breaks yur world all loose if you just add (ie. mix) both audio outputs ;)

as long as you stay away from specific stereo controls (eg. dco width & pan, which is more like a stereo balance but w/e) and that weird "daft" knobs on the fx section, i might say you'll be just fine. if not, you'll just get some phasing bonus effects, if not some huge phaaat lead sounds :)

No, I mean mono keyboard voice control (rather than polyphonic). :)

then no. not atm. :)

however i take it somewhat anachronistic it should be easily implemented though, just make any note-off trigger any current running voice into release phase.

noted.

Perhaps I'm being pedantic, but a true analogue monosynth would cut off the previous note rather than just release it (oscillator can only oscillate at 1 frequency). Up to you whether you retrigger the envelopes or do it mini-moog style. The release method would work though, and could produce some interesting effects...

True, true.. people can make synths the way they want them. :)

In the "traditional" fashion, I agree, monophonic voicing means that any new note cuts off the previous note. If portamento is activated in this mode, then it becomes "legato."

Monophonic capability would certainly open up the possibilities. (I'm of the humble opinion that synths should have both poly and mono capability. They really provide two very different features.)

well, it ain't true analog not even mono anyway ;) own title's perhaps punchy enough: it's a polysynth :)

and please also note that catch line about it being "all-digital"--yeah, it ain't virtual analog whatsoever ;)

yep yep. I must admit that my synth plugin isn't monophonic and I don't think it ever will be. Its just not that kind of animal. The architecture isn't really meant for that. Perhaps synthv1 is in the same boat. Its a great synth as is. Different tools for different jobs.
