amsynth 1.4.0 released
I'm very pleased to announce that version 1.4.0 of amsynth is now officially released.
- LV2 support added
- various improvements to sound engine, including:
-- mono & legato keyboard modes
-- portamento / glide control
-- extended OSC 2 detune range
-- switchable low-pass / high-pass / band-pass filter modes
-- switchable 12 / 24 db/Octave filter slopes
-- additional LFO waveforms (sawtooth up & down)
-- reduced aliasaing on oscillator's square / pulse waveform
- now ships with substantial library of presets
- preset banks are now stored in ~/.amsynth/banks
- numerous other improvements and bug fixes
A huge thanks to Brian for creating what amsynth has been sorely missing all these years - a sound bank that shows off its sound capabilities
And thanks to all that have tried out and given feedback on the experimental builds while 1.4 was under development.
Download, enjoy, and please report any bugs or issues that you find.

Re: amsynth 1.4.0 released
I've played quickly through 4 of the banks.
Very nice stuff.
Tried the LV2 version first in Carla but that is very cumbersome if you want to choose the presets. I am not sure if it showed me more than one bank. And every time you switch the preset you have to make the connections again. I guess that is Carla, not the plugin, right?
Anyway, then I tried the standalone version. That worked great. I have two suggestion/wishes:
1) How about Non-Session Manager support? That really helps for standalone programs. The rncbc synth and sampler got it recently, ZynAddSubFx has it as well. Very useful.
2) I wish for a preset-bank that is, more or less, GM compatible. That means something that resembles a piano on program 0, something like a solo violin on 41 etc. Maybe there is already enough material to quickly copy/paste that together.

Re: amsynth 1.4.0 released
I just saw this thread today.. Talk about being distracted!
Anyways, thank you Nixx for all the improvements and additions you've done to this cool synth over the last few months. It's been exciting to watch it develop!
As far as the soundbanks, I'm aware that some of the sounds are repeats, and the later banks are generally better quality than the first few, for sure. Hopefully people will find something in them that inspires them, that's all that matters. And hopefully they will stimulate others into making sounds, too. I'd love to see more "patch sharing."
Bank 12 is underway.. but I'm getting pickier now, weeding out the repeats more often, and always searching for that "new" sound to add...

Re: amsynth 1.4.0 released
Thanks a lot for that
Is there any documentation how to control it with a tool such as TouchOSC?

I've never heard of TouchOSC until your post; there's a forum where you might put a question up about how you want to control amSynth specifically:

Hopefully they can help; they're definitely open to linux..

Hi zettberlin, maybe this could be helpful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pycl9Oi1tv8
And an example script: https://github.com/AutoStatic/scripts/b ... h-touchdaw
I've used TouchDAW though and not TouchOSC. And maybe it's indeed a good idea to stick this into a Wiki article.

Re: amsynth 1.4.0 released
I named TouchOSC only as an example.
I have about half a dozen Apps for Android that send OSC-data and most of them I can catch with the Liblo-tools.
But I have a hard time finding out how I can actually *use* the signals to manipulate controls in applications such as Ardour or others.
All I could find was advice how to setup patches in PD that catch and process the signals but I did never found the time to learn how to master PD and it was quite demotivating, that PD does not play that nice with Jack for me (frequent xruns even with trivial work to do...).
So in the end: when I use a MIDI-controller like Borce Traikovskis Mixer for Android, I can control Guitarix using MIDI-learn very very easy and reliable. But The GUIs of the OSC-apps are quite more intrigueing compared with Mixer and similar. So I would love to use them to control and play programs like amsynth.

Latest guitarix comes with a webUI front-end, which you can use on your Android device, to control guitarix.zettberlin wrote:So in the end: when I use a MIDI-controller like Borce Traikovskis Mixer for Android, I can control Guitarix using MIDI-learn very very easy and reliable.
