Question about feedback compensation

Post by nick87720z »

Hello. I posted similar question in section "studio & gear", as it seems to be related to concert live work, but don't know, is it supposed for that, still no answer.

I independently have an untested idea, how to compensate feedback between microphones and concert speakers, but need some professional opinion.
The order is following:
- preparation: playback dry impulse through microphone, record through microphone impulse, including both speakers and hall reflection.
- during work: process signal, routed to speakers, by convolver, thus getting some expected feedback, then subtract it in some way from input signal.
The combination of impulse+convolver+subtractor is per each microphone.

I'm expecting the consert of one favorite folk group in place, which i guess, is lacking such system, with only measure is manual equalizing. So i hope, luck will allow to test this (of coure, i still have to ask operator about details).
Most notable questions, that are known for me:
- will implementation be under patents threat if it involves only free plugins, placed in some modular studio or rack - i.e., manual construction without e.g. special anti-feedback hardware?
- how to subtract unwanted feedback: wether simple inverting enough, or some harder work is needed (spectral editing or whatever).
- will not sound from each instrument in acoustic band, mixing into all microphones, appart dedicated, break things besides panning (panning doesn't seem to be problem, as music listeners are unlike to focus attention on such details).
