I found the C:\ drive, and now I am starting to see the problem.

The lmms file browser does not show hidden files.

When I use Dolphin, I have no problem finding wine.

Should I just change the wine folder. to visible ?

No. Browse to your home directory, then put your mouse cursor in the "File name" field. Type ".wine" and hit Enter. Now you can proceed.

TIP: drag the "drive_c" directory to the folder list on the left column, so you create a shortcut and don't have to type anymore.

Hip-hop artists no longer use sampling nearly as much as they used to because of so many legal headaches. Beware of that.

Festige inside LMMS doesn't work for me, either. It works standalone, outside LMMS, but not in it.

You can use Carla (as usual). Load Carla from LMMS's tightly restricted selection of plugins you're allowed to run from the Plugins column, then load the plugins you really want inside Carla. Windows plugins, too.

I was trying carla last night, but It does not seem to work in LMMS, or I am doing it wrong.

I have two carla options in lmms, but when I click show gui, nothing happens.

I might have to start carla outside lmms, and then start lmms.

When I start Carla outside LMMS ( on openSUSE ) Carla seems to work.

First I will see if I can find some manual on Carla (and LMMS). The lmms wiki is not very helpful, although it states Carla should work on Linux.

Carla inside LMMS works for me, and I can load anything in Carla, including Windows plugins. I suggest you double check your procedure.

If you really get stuck, you might install Simple Screen Recorder and make a video of your session. I, for one, will look at it and try to troubleshoot.

It's known that LMMS doesn't patch with Jack, so i guess this is the same for Carla? (no experience with Carla)

LMMS does though can do this over Alsa. Perhaps that can be a solution?

I already set carla to pulse audio, I will try the alsa option too. ( default setting is jack, and as far as I can tell Carla is working.

LMMS seems to use what they call a simple direct media layer.

I have not tried lmms and jack, with this version, lmms rc3, I do have jack installed, and the lmms compiler was happy.

I believe they are talking about the plugin version of carla? Its probably confusing but instead of launching it though your usual app launcher menu, you need to launch as you would any plugin in lmms. Same app, but totally different way of using it.

Which version of LMMS are you using if I may ask, and what Carla version ?

I might have to compile Carla myself.

Right now I have compiled LMMS rc3 myself, but Carla comes from an official openSUSE repository.
When I tried to load a ( vst) .dll file into carla, it just refused, to do so.

This is for me however the first time, I try to use Carla, so I am gonna rtfm first, to rule out any mistakes on my part.

On a side note, I am making progress. This is the first time Carla even starts on openSUSE.
But I also have a Carla control, which does not seem to work when I click it.

Off topic:
I love openSUSE, but when it comes to lmms and multimedia related to lmms, I often end up compiling it myself.
OpenSUSE is working on a solution, for this.
To give an example, I tried sonic visualizer from openSUSE, but that version does not want to load mp3, it does load .ogg files.
I do not know when but openSUSE will do something like mint in the future, and install allot of non open source stuff too.

Then I might have a problem, because I can't launch carla from within lmms.

When I click in LMMS, on the carla thingy, show gui nothing happens.

Carla git 2:1.9.7 and LMMS 2:1.1.3

But when I click show gui, nothing happens.

I seem to have the same Carla version, but not the same lmms, I am on 1.2.0-rc3.

Should I try to compile lmms again, and or compile Carla myself ?

I know I have gotten a few Carla updates after I compiled lmms, I have no idea to what carla version lmms is compiled, or if that matters ?

I will ask on discord about this, if lmms rc 3 and carla should work.


Outside LMMS
I have two Carla menu options in kde,
Carla and Carla control.

Carla control does not seem to work, so compiling Carla myself might be worth a try.
To be sure, I just tried again to start Carla control, from the kde menu.
It seems to start and then crash.

Maybe we have found the problem.

I had a quick talk on discord, with an lmms dev.

To keep it short, I will try to compile Carla myself, and then see if it will work in lmms.
The Carla version I have installed, is from an opensuse repository.

I suspect Carla, because I have outside LMMS, in kde two Carla options, of which one crashes.
So there is something not right about my Carla install, even if its not related to the lmms issue.

If that fails, I will try to compile lmms again. That should be relative easy, because I wont have to install any dev files, they are already there.

if that fails too, I am gonna ask the maker of Carla for help.
