Re: Extra presets for TAL-NoiseMaker (LV2)
Cool!!
Only I couldn't get it to work.
Ok, I downloaded it, set in the home/.lv2 directory (had to make it). Extracted it. Opened Carla. Did a refresh of paths, which includes home/.lv2 directory. Then I opened TAL (in Carla). But I can't find how to access the presets.
Feeling like an idiot...

re-read this part:Carla is not mentioned on purpose. only those 3 apps can load the presets.Ardour3 (latest beta), Jalv and Qtractor (0.5.5) can load them (although not sorted, report a bug to them)
The reason I guess I skipped that part, is because I don't like DAWs very much. I know some (most?) people like DAWs, and I know they have a lot of features, but it always takes so much time just to get a simple idea recorded. Everytime I open Ardour I have to open a project. Uff! I like to just record an idea, add more tracks one-by-one, and save it all as an audio file. I'll try Ardour again, just to hear the sounds. But I always feel like I have to jump through hurdles just to get recording..
Then again, it's probably just me not knowing all the features of DAWs; maybe there's a way to skip most of the steps.
I'm really curious to hear this presets..

@briandc, you might want to try if non-daw suits your need. If you want you can start jalv in nsm (via nsm-proxy, likely jalv will get nsm support in future).

Yes, I tried non-daw, and it seems simpler, but I still wasn't able to get past opening TAL. Opening the plug-in: ok. Opening new patches for the plug-in: not ok.studio32 wrote:@briandc, you might want to try if non-daw suits your need. It's probably my own limitations. Still, I think DAWs will always remain a hurdle. Even if I get into using one at some point in the future, but it reminds me of my Motif 8: lots of selecting, dialing and clicking before you can get anything recorded.
Last night I was having fun with Qsynth. With audacity, I am able to get jamming in a matter of seconds (literally). With DAWs (I'm thinking particularly of Ardour), it's not so easy (or fun).
Maybe it's how the DAWs are set-up. Maybe there should be a simpler interface, less options in the menu bars. Just to get you going.

Re: Extra presets for TAL-NoiseMaker (LV2)
The version I reviewed recently (built from the latest repo sources) included no support for plugins within the DAW itself. As you know, the Non stuff is intended to work as a suite, though of course parts can be split off for separate use, such as NSM.falkTX wrote:non-daw supports LV2?

Re: Extra presets for TAL-NoiseMaker (LV2)
I *think* I'm following the developer's notion of separated apps, so no, the Non-DAW doesn't support plugins but the Non-Mixer does. And I think you're right, it's LADSPA-only for now.falkTX wrote: ... both v1.0.0 and v1.1.0 versions of Non-Mixer included LADSPA support, so it does support plugins. Or is this no longer the case? (I got a bit confused with Non-DAW/Mixer earlier)
PS: Very excited to check out the new presets too. Thank you so much for your work on the DISTRHO stuff, it's a great contribution to the Linux audio armory. You rock.
Best,
dp
Re: Extra presets for TAL-NoiseMaker (LV2)
Non-mixer only supports good old LADSPA.
But I read those presets works in jalv, so you can start jalv in the nsm-proxy client in NSM.
Jalv should have nsm support in future.

Re: Extra presets for TAL-NoiseMaker (LV2)
It would be nice if Carla would have nsm support too indeed
I've dowload the distrho source from git, but how do I build the TAL LV2 plugins?
edit: ah got it, but:
$ jalv http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products/tal-noisemaker
Plugin: http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products/tal-noisemaker
No appropriate UI found
JACK Name: TAL NoiseMaker Plugin
MIDI buffers: 256 bytes
Comm buffers: 4096 bytes
Update rate: 60 Hz

Re: Extra presets for TAL-NoiseMaker (LV2)
Ah sorry, my foolishness I guess. jalv.gtk will do
A nice lv2 host with nsm is very welcome. I might give Carla a shot later!

Re: Extra presets for TAL-NoiseMaker (LV2)
Hi
I extract the file and copied the lv2 directory to $HOME/.lv2
I started ardour3beta, opened tal noisemaker, but i don't see the presets?
I also renamed TAL-NoiseMaker-Noise4U.lv2/ to TAL-NoiseMaker.lv2/ in the $HOME/.lv2 directory,
but that doesn't make any difference.
How can i use the presets, without losing the standard presets?

Re: Extra presets for TAL-NoiseMaker (LV2)
Just make sure to put them in a place the host expects it.
/usr/lib/lv2/ is the safest bet (just make sure to not replace the actual plugin bundle files, this is why it has a different name).
You can try something like this too:
export LV2_PATH=$HOME/.lv2:/usr/lib/lv2
ardour3
Also, you can always set the LV2_PATH in your ~/.bashrc file. For example:
Code: Select all
export LV2_PATH=/usr/lib/lv2:/usr/local/lib/lv2:$HOME/.lv2

Re: Extra presets for TAL-NoiseMaker (LV2)
I've been fiddling around with Qtractor, trying to get sound out of plug-ins like TAL Noise-maker. But I get the following errors:
Ok, I changed the paths. But still, qtractor doesn't see my Midi controller (in the connections window, yes, but when I make a track and select a midi device, no)
No sound from TAL or synthv1.

Re: Extra presets for TAL-NoiseMaker (LV2)
brian:
I presume you got your prob sorted right?
F+everyone:
I have been unable to get TAL-NM to find/show these presets under qtr and A3. I can work round that by importing individual sounds into NM but I'd also like to know how to access additional banks of LV2 format presets.
My LV2_PATH seems to be set correctly already:
Here's where I put 'em:
I see no new presets appearing under qtr (in both the mixer plugin properties and under its MIDI track properties bank selection menus) or A3.
Any ideas?

Re: Extra presets for TAL-NoiseMaker (LV2)
Slowly learning the ropes, but I do have 2 versions of synthv1 and TAL Noizemaker working in KXStudio without a problem. Carla handles them well;danboid wrote:brian:

I'll check Qtractor again; I don't "do" DAWs very much, too many steps to get recording; but I get them working in Carla just fine. Have you tried that?
You might also try seeing just where the presets are stored (locate [foobar]) and then copy your other patches there.
