Re: recordmydesktop with jack

Hi!
I've trying to do some captures of my desktop, running jack. I know this is possible as there are ardour video tutorials made with a jack-aware recordmydesktop. Indeed, in one of these videos, when showing available connections in an ardour dialog, you can see recordmydesktop as available outputs. And in fact, the video is well syncronized with the audio.
Here are the videos, announced in the ardour forums. Very helpful by the way:

Well, I tried a lot to get recordmydesktop running with jack. Configure tells me I can compile with jack support, I then did make and make install, but I couldn't get it. When I give the jack options and ports, it says that I haven't jack support. Maybe it's an option for make, but I don't know how to do it. Maybe some of you has been able?

The link you point to linuxplanet tells it does not always work. Never for me :(

This project seems to be sleeping. I reported my configure and errors output at:

http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php? ... _id=590957

As a workaround I am using jack_capture. I have just discovered jack_capture. It receives automatic connections from whatever you are routing to the system playbacks, so you record whatever you are hearing form the speakers. I compiled it from source with make and sudo make install (there is no INSTALL instructions file but this worked for me). I launch it with jack_capture_gui2 and record as wav 24 bit, which probably is overkill, but I can compress the video file later anyway.

Now, the part where I merge the audio into the video. I'm using kdenlive for that. It's a bit crashy in my computer, but I think it's going to improve. I had to install libsdl1.2debian-all from synaptic in order to hear sounds. Previsualization is not very good, but at least I can see the point when I pushed the jack capture button. That's where I put the beginning of the audio track in the timeline. Then I export to mpeg.

The result is here, this is just a test in my efforts to make videotutorials on jack-aware applications. I know the video and music are not the best you can see and listen to, plus my monitor is really bad. I don't recommend using effects but they are good for videotutorials because of the zoom. The music was recorded entirely in ardour, which was my first attempt. I intend to make videotutorials in this blog for spanish speakers musicians who wants to try GNU/Linux. But I myself need to learn first. I will update asap.
