Hey!
I am starting a Youtube channel for audio production on Linux. My first Video is about, how to prepare Linux (I am using Ubuntu 16.04) for audio production.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6LuvdDEqCA

What do you think, any suggestions?

Thanks!

Jochen

Excellent video, you definitely explained everything clearly and made getting started very easy.

I would suggest recording a part of desktop so that text is readable at 480p.

I never installed low latency kernel and never had problems with it. Why do people use it?

Forgot to say, the most important part is missing. *WHY* do we need to follow these steps?

@sysrqer Thanks, great that you liked it!

@FaTony You are right some of the text isn't that good readable. Maybe I start recording with a 720p screen resolution, this should make the text bigger or do as you suggested.
My steps are from the Ubuntu Studio Preperation guide (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ubunt ... reparation). I chose the ones I found useful for myself. Without the lowlatency kernel I couldn't get low latencies in jack (too many XRUNS). How did you do it then?

This is really great. Clear, well-paced, and hopefully it will be helpful for many people.

Re: Fatony's suggestion of "why", I dissent. That information can be found elsewhere by people who are curious.

There's a real need for straightforward information like this for those who just want to make music and not fuss endlessly with the computer. You are filling this space perfectly!

Well I use 44.1 kHz with 1024 frame buffer. Haven't experienced latency issues.

@ufug Thanks! :)

Ahh ok. Yes if your're not doing any latency critical stuff its not necessary. When recording guitar for example any latency above 10ms is quite hearable. I'm recording at 48kHz with 64 frame buffer with 5ms latency.

RT is also more important with a USB interface than with an internal sound card.
