Bitwig and Nektar Panorama P6

Post by 71GA »

I am running Bitwig (https://www.bitwig.com/en/bitwig-studio.html) demo on Archlinux sucessfully (not with the RT kernel) and it is by far the best DAW for Linux that I have came across. I can record my guitar signal through Scarlet 2i4 withouth any problems. Now If I really want to work in music industry I will need a Bitwig compatible MIDI controller and NECTAR Panorama P6 (http://www.nektartech.com/PRODUCTS/Panorama-P4-P6) is promised to be well integrated with the Bitwig. This can be seen from the numerous videos on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhtJiIy6OEE). Now I havent found any info on this MIDI controller on any Linux hardware site and would like to ask you if anyone uses it with Bitwig and how does it work.

i don't know but if you see anywhere that it works with ipads and/or is class-compliant then it'll probably work with linux too.

Well I have to report that I don't know how to make Nektar Panorama P6 work under ArchLinux. It has 2 USB plugs - first for powering the motorized slider and second for everything else. I wanted to know what kind of device this represents itself as and after running

Code: Select all

dmesg -w
I got an output which looks like this:

Code: Select all

[20869.945331] input: NeKtar PANORAMA P6 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/usb3/3-6/3-6:1.2/0003:2467:2022.0005/input/input17
This is for the second USB while first one doesn't trigger any kind of an event in dmesg - I think it is only used for power. IT is weird to me, that this MIDI keyboard represents itself as the PCI device... Does anyone have any Idea. Take a look at these outputs as well which seem not to list my Nectar panorama P6:

The device also has MIDI out in the back, but I have never used any kind of MIDI device. Not on Windows and not on Linux... Any sugestions about this?

you can at least get basic functionality through midi I imagine. Just get a midi cable and connect the midi out of the keyboard to the midi in of your focusrite scarlett. If you are using JACK you can then connect the midi in to whatever program you want. You don't need to know too much about midi to use it. Just know every knob turn or key press sends a midi message and the program you send it to should know how to use it. You might need to use "midi learn" to assign that midi message from knob X to parameter Y in the program. This is just generic stuff, I don't use BW so I can't really help with specifics (other than guess). Sorry.
