Also new here

Post by Havoc »

Hello, I subscribed after some propaganda for this forum was posted on the SOS board. Think it is about time there is a specific forum for audio/music on linux.

Not a musician myself (well, I do play a bit of organ) but I like recording and messing around. Most of it is DAT to CD transcribing of organ recordings. also some LP to CD transcription.

At home I'm using linux for 90%, the other 10% is some work in CEP that I haven't found an equivalent for under linux: audio restoration. Distro of choice is Gentoo. Kind of stumbled into that after trying other distros and failing to get along with them. Don't know why I can get along with Gentoo as I know about nothing of linux...

Anyway, glad this forum exists.

Havoc, welcome, great to have you here! :)

We've recently opened a special forum part about recording, editing and mastering >> The Producer's Area
so we could use some expertise about that topic here, at least I love to learn more about it!

ps. did you ask on the LAU mailinglist for an equivalent of CEP?

Nope, I'm not active on mailinglists. AFAIK Audacity has some possibilities and then there is GWC. But having to switch between 3 apps (Rezound being number 3) makes it a pain compared to CEP.

Not exactly an expert on those topics. I still have a lot to learn.

GWC >> http://gwc.sourceforge.net/

Maybe this could be interesting http://www.eca.cx/ecasound/features.php and (just for analyzing) http://www.sonicvisualiser.org/

And if you love organs you probably know this app: aeolus > amazing (church)organ sounds! :)
