Another new Hi from the UK

Post by xhilyn »

Hi All.

I'm new here, and am based in the UK (South East - Not London).

Ive been using Linux in various forms for 10 years now and currently run Ubuntu Studio.
I like the Xfce desktop and how its setup and it works very well for me.
I tried KX studio and AV Linux but just didn't like how they worked.

I come from a Cubase on Atari, then the Mac, then Windows background.
but wanted to get away from expensive proprietary software, hence Gnu/Linux.

I tried Ardour but just could not get my head round the routing boxes.

So I use Qjackctl to control and connect Jack.
Then I use Rosegarden for my Midi/Audio DAW and
the Hydrogen drum machine and the Yoshimi synth.
I also use the Calf Jack plugins as I find they work very well.

I'm an amateur and have never made any money from my music
but have been involved with music technology since before MIDI was a thing.
Yes I'm old and in my mid sixties but still enjoy tinkering.

My system is much simpler now than it was when I ran Cubase and far more stable
but I like it like that as I find less choice is better for creativity.
There is definitely such a thing as too much choice.

I just love the Rosegarden Audio/MIDI sequencer.
So thanks to all who have made all this wonderful free software available.
