Canadian looking for a good MIDI book

Post by macxcool »

I'm Mark and I'm from Canada. I've been playing around with Jack, Rosegarden, QjackCtl, QSynth, Musescore, etc. for years and having lots of fun with them. I have a simple keyboard and as USB to MIDI interface cable that I've been messing with lately.
I'd like to gain more technical knowledge about MIDI, how it works, and how to manage it. Is there a good book out there that can give me some advanced theoretical and practical MIDI knowledge so I can learn to do more, more efficiently?

For a solid practical overview I suggest MIDI For The Professional, an old but still relevant book :

https://www.amazon.com/MIDI-Professiona ... ofessional

A more technical guide for programmers :

https://www.amazon.com/Midi-Programmers ... e+de+furia

Beware, MIDI ain't what it used to be, and while the older books are still fundamentally relevant they lack reports on the latest developments.

HTH,
