Really thrilled with FLOSS program: Task Coach

Post by wolftune »

For those looking for a good project management / personal organizer program, I've tried a few and I find Task Coach to be absolutely amazing.

http://www.taskcoach.org/

I am able to easily set up a focused daily-tasks list that is dynamic alongside long-term projects, carefully prioritizing everything.

It is by far the best program like this I've ever used.

It's GNU GPL, cross-platform, active developers, and very powerful. Unlike all other task managers, it doesn't leave you completely aimless with infinite choices but it doesn't force you to work a particular way either. It has a way of working, but a lot of flexibility.

It handles prerequisites, unlimited nesting, planned times, priorities, time tracking, and so much more.

The biggest downside: the portable app they have is iOS only (but syncs with all platforms of the main program, including Linux). They'd love to do Android but have just decided that they don't have enough development resources (time and people) to make an Android app at this time.
2nd biggest downside: it lacks in aesthetic appeal and so turns off window-shopping folks looking quickly at all the options.

So, I hope people give it a try, but most of all get involved. If you know Python, then they have a real need for more active developers. There's lots of great ideas and things to improve and just not enough programming time.

Check it out!

Ok, back to Task Coach to get on with my next task…
