Why do people call it "Linux operating system"? Linux is nothing without GNU.

None of us did.
Please stop this, it's getting silly.

It's funny how this applies both forwards and backwards.

Not really. Gnu runs on proprietary kernels too. In fact all gnu used to until linux. So gnu/linux is just like gnu/bsd or gnu/unix. But its easier to just call it linux, bsd or unix.

The link in 3rd post is saying "linux operating system". A lot of other sites too. Even the name of this very site. You can't make music using only a kernel.

Greetings,

Just wanted to add that Linux has been the best thing to happen for me in my computing life (since, say, 1986).

Vast thanks to Linus Torvalds, Richard Stallman, and the global horde of coders - along with the army of other participants, users included - who make it all happen. My musical life would be very different without their generosity.

Best,

dp

I too, am grateful to all who help to help make computing with GNU/Linux possible and fun -- including this forum! ;)
